Semantic Scholar is a team of researchers and engineers at the Allen AI Institute dedicated to building a better way to search and discover scientific knowledge.

Our mission is to use artificial intelligence to accelerate scientific breakthroughs. Our research team studies information overload and develops artificial intelligence tools to overcome it. Our product and engineering teams provide these unique AI driven features to millions of scholars on a large scale every month.

Semantic Scholar is always open and free for everyone to use. In addition to the search and discovery tools provided by semanticcholar.org, we also offer the Semantic Scholar API and Open Research Corpus as free services to the research community.

Semantic Scholar was launched in 2015 as a pioneering project of the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence, a non-profit research institution founded in 2014 with the mission of conducting high impact artificial intelligence research and engineering to serve the common good. AI2 was founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and led by leading AI researcher Dr. Oren Etzioni.
