Universal Pictures is an American film studio owned by Comcast through its wholly-owned subsidiary NBCUniversal, and is one of the "Big Six" Hollywood film studios. Its production studio is located at 100 Universal City Plaza Avenue, Universal City, California. The distribution and other company offices are located in New York City. Universal Studios is a member of the American Film Association (MPAA). Universal was founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle (pronounced "LEM lee"), Mark Dentenfass, Charles O. Baumann, Adam Kessel, Pat Powers, William Swanson, David Horsley, Robert H. Cochrane, and Jules Brulatour, a German.

It is the fourth oldest large film studio in the world, second only to the famous French film companies Gaumont Film Company and Path é, as well as the Danish Nordisk Film company. Six films of Universal Studios; Jaws (1975), Alien (1982), Jurassic Park (1993), Despicable Me 2 (2013), Fury 7 (2015), and Jurassic World (2015) all set box office records, with the top three (directed by Steven Spielberg) becoming the highest grossing films at their initial release.
