Nowadays, most of the contents of Internet space are pictures, drawings or other visual media. Although a picture is worth a thousand words, it usually requires more storage space and bandwidth to transmit than the words mentioned in that famous quote. Sometimes even more.
The average mobile homepage weight of the top 1 million websites is about 2 MB. The picture accounts for two-thirds of this weight.
Many contents on successful websites are contributed by users, and most users do not understand the technology. It's nothing. What would the internet look like if a person had to master C++to post a photo of themselves exploring the wilderness or jungle from their phone? Or even just scaling and compressing the image before sending?
Although a successful website must make the content creation process as simple as possible, it must also pay attention to the size of the images so that the page loading speed is fast and users can fully utilize them. Images generated by various devices, such as digital cameras or design applications, are rarely optimized for size. For example, images captured with a new smartphone can easily exceed 4 MB, while a decent webpage should not exceed 3 MB. How many pictures like this can you put in?
This is exactly the problem we can solve. By using our proprietary image analysis software and open-source coding software optimized for optimal compression, we can reduce image size by up to 90%, and in most cases, the human eye cannot see any difference.

In April 2015, we launched the first paid version of this service. More and more customers are starting to use our ShortPixel image optimization plugin, so we have to expand new and more powerful servers to cope with numerous specific situations where customers use different WordPress installations, plugins, or custom code. We have decided to provide the same advanced support to all customers, whether they are paying customers or using our free services.
In 2016, we developed a PHP client library, and in 2017, we launched the universal PHP tool ShortPixel Website Optimizer for optimizing website images, so now any PHP based website can benefit from our image compression technology. We have also developed a command-line interface that allows us to use our service from the command line to optimize local folders containing images, or monitor changes in these image folders in scheduler jobs without any administrator intervention. You can view all of these and more content on our product page.
In 2018, we launched a new service called ShortPixel Adaptive Images. On the basis of successful image optimization, we have started offering a new service aimed at providing images that are as close as possible to the pixel size required for each page and device, while also improving the way optimized images are delivered through CDN.
