The original prototype and related software of Gigaban were designed by a team led by Randy Sargent and Illah Nourbakhsh. Sargent is a senior systems scientist at Carnegie Mellon University West Campus and NASA Ames Research Center in Moffetfield, California, while Nobach is an associate professor of robotics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
