Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (hereinafter referred to as BUAA) was founded in 1952. It was formed by merging the aeronautical departments of eight universities at that time, namely Tsinghua University, Beiyang University, Northwest Polytechnic Institute, Xiamen University, Sichuan University, North China University of Technology, Yunnan University and Southwest Polytechnic Institute. After two adjustments, it is the first aerospace university in New China and is now affiliated to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The school is located in Beijing and is divided into the Xueyuan Road Campus and Shahe Campus, covering an area of ​​more than 3,000 acres and a total construction area of ​​more than 1.7 million square meters. Since its establishment, Beihang University has been a key university in the country. The discipline construction policy of "top engineering, first-class science, fine liberal arts, and superior medical engineering" has been established. There are 10 disciplines in engineering, science, management, liberal arts, law, economics, philosophy, education, medicine and art. There are 8 first-level national key disciplines (tied for 7th among universities nationwide), 28 second-level national key disciplines, 10 Beijing key disciplines, 10 national defense characteristic disciplines, and 14 Class A disciplines, among which aerospace science and technology, instrument science and technology, materials science and engineering, and software engineering are A+ disciplines. There are 74 undergraduate majors, 25 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 39 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, and 23 postdoctoral research mobile stations. It has obvious comparative advantages in the fields of aviation, aerospace, power, information, materials, instruments, manufacturing, management, etc., forming two major advantageous disciplines of aerospace and information technology, and the main disciplines of national defense science and technology have reached the first-class level in China. The ESI rankings of the six disciplines of engineering, materials science, physics, computer science, chemistry, and general social sciences are in the top 1% in the world, and engineering and materials science are in the top 1‰ in the world. In the 2020 "Soft Science World Class Discipline Ranking", the discipline of aerospace engineering has been ranked first in the world for the third consecutive year.
