China University of Geosciences (Beijing) was developed in 1952 from the Beijing Institute of Geology, which was established by merging the geological departments (disciplines) of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Tianjin University and Tangshan Railway Institute. It is a university with distinctive characteristics and profound cultural heritage. The school was relocated in 1970 and resumed operation at its original site in Beijing in 1978 under the direct care of Comrade Deng Xiaoping. China University of Geosciences was established in 1987. It is one of the first 33 universities in my country to pilot graduate schools and the first to enter the ranks of the national "211 Project" and the national "985" advantage discipline innovation platform construction. In February 2000, China University of Geosciences was transferred from the Ministry of Land and Resources to the Ministry of Education for management. In March 2005, the university headquarters was abolished and Beijing and Wuhan were independently run.
The school has always carried forward the fine tradition of serving the country through geology, shouldered the glorious mission of pioneering socialist construction, trained a large number of geological professionals urgently needed for economic construction, and made indelible contributions to the take-off of New China's industry and the development of geological undertakings. It has tempered a distinctive character of being stronger and stronger, strong and courageous, and formed the value pursuit of "loving the motherland, being able to endure hardships, being a pioneer, and daring to explore".
