Its technology matches drivers with available seats with passengers heading to the same destination, so they can share the travel expenses. BlaBlaCar's mission is to become the preferred market for shared mobility, combining carpooling with bus itineraries from over 5000 operators to provide a variety of affordable and sustainable travel solutions in one application.

In 2023, BlaBlaCar's trusted community connected 2.4 million meeting points worldwide and facilitated 104 million interpersonal encounters. Carpool drivers saved 513 million euros, and all of BlaBlaCar's travel services help avoid 2 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

How did everything start

On Christmas Day in 2003, Fred attempted to return to his home in the countryside of France, but due to the lack of cars, all trains were crowded with people, causing him trouble. After pleading with his sister to pick him up, Fred noticed many people driving alone on the road. He suddenly realized that all these empty seats in existing cars could be the beginning of a new travel network. Over the next decade, the three of them, along with co founders Francis and Nicholas, built this simple idea into the world's leading carpooling platform, connecting millions of fellow travelers.
