About WordReference.com Over the past few years, the Internet has done an incredible job of connecting the world together. One of the biggest barriers is language. Most of the content is in English, and many, many users read English web pages as a second language. I know from my own experience with Spanish websites that many readers may understand most of what they are reading, but not every word. I founded this site in 1999 in an effort to provide free online bilingual dictionaries and tools to the world. Since then, the site has grown to become one of the most used online dictionaries, and the top online dictionary for the English-Spanish, English-French, English-Italian, Spanish-French, and Spanish-Portuguese language pairs. It is consistently ranked as one of the top 500 most visited websites in the world, and is in the top 100 most visited websites in Spain, France, Italy, and all of Latin America. I am proud of my history of innovating dictionaries on the Internet. Many of the features you see in many online dictionaries, such as forums and being able to click on any word in a dictionary entry, were first implemented by me. Today, I have three main goals for WordReference. First, to continue creating free online bilingual dictionaries for English and many other languages. I strive to provide excellent translations for "all" English words, terms, idioms, proverbs, etc. translated into "all" languages. This is a huge goal and it will take time. There are many languages and creating a high-quality dictionary is neither cheap nor quick. In addition to English, I plan to do the same for Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese. Second, to provide the best language forum in the world, dedicated to relatively serious discussions about the meaning and translation of words, terms, and expressions in many languages. Third, to continue to innovate and make the best website and reference tool for the world.
