Xinjiang University of Engineering is a regular undergraduate institution sponsored by the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and supervised by the Department of Education. It is located in the beautiful city of Urumqi. Schools are built because of coal and thrive because of work. In 1958, 163 officers and soldiers from the Second Preparatory School of the General Rear Service Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army transferred to Xinjiang and established the Urumqi Coal Mine School. In 1985, it was renamed Xinjiang Coal Vocational College. In 1994, it was renamed Xinjiang Industrial Higher Vocational College. In 2012, it was upgraded to Xinjiang Engineering College with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In the same year, Xinjiang Mechanical and Electrical Vocational and Technical College was merged. For over 60 years, the school has adhered to the Populus euphratica spirit of "hard work, rooted in the border, self-improvement, and willingness to contribute", and cultivated the school motto of "unity of knowledge and action, pursuit of excellence".
