FunTrivia is a trivial website. It was the first trivia website added to the Yahoo directory and was once the most popular trivia website on the internet. It is one of the earliest entertainment websites on the internet to use community generated content models to create all of its content.
It contains over 1 million trivia questions, over 140000 quizzes, divided into nearly 16000 topics, all submitted by over 4000 different contributors. The test is created and submitted by community members and placed online for anyone to play for free.
New submissions are checked by category editors before publication, and previously accepted submissions can be modified without editorial intervention. All editors on FunTrivia are members of the volunteer community. As of 2009, there were 40 volunteers editing and maintaining the content of the website.
FunTrivia also pioneered the "Ask" mode in the early 2000s, where visitors can ask trivial questions and receive answers from other guests.
FunTrivia's free (non subscription) members can play most of the games on the website, such as Easy and Daily games, and can play all user created quizzes. However, only the scores from the first 100 tests are saved. Free members can participate in most hourly and daily trivia games. All players can create quizzes. Members can also join or create a team whose members share common similarities.
The subscription (gold membership) option is available for frequent players, allowing access to more activities than free membership. Gold card members can take any number of tests as needed, record the tests, and earn points. Other features only applicable to Gold members include test analysis options, ad free, and faster search. They can also play the game "Golden Can", where players must answer questions on different topics every day. [2]
FunTrivia was founded in 1995 as the "Useless Facts and Trivialities Archive" at the University of Waterloo, a simple website that allows visitors to submit facts and information to a database. Owner Terry Ford contacted Yahoo! Founder Yang Zhiyuan and the website have been added to a new "trivia" category in the Yahoo directory. [3]
After registering the domain name in 1999, the website was renamed FunTrivia.com and quickly entered other Q&A fields.
