This website aims to display a large number of authentic Chinese propaganda posters (as well as some printed materials, Paper Cuttings and other images). It provides more information in the form of biographical descriptions and resources of poster artists. ChinesePosters.net is an ongoing work that continues to grow and become a better platform for showcasing one of the most fascinating chapters in the history of poster promotion, as well as a visual chronicle of modern Chinese history.
The posters and other images on this website are from the collections of Stefan Landsberger (Leiden University, University of Amsterdam), the International Institute of Social History (IISH, Amsterdam, Netherlands), and an anonymous private collector. These collections add up to over 7000 pieces.
This website is owned and maintained by the China Poster Foundation. Stefan R. Landsberger is the editor and responsible for the content; Marien van der Heijden is a co editor and website administrator. ChinesePosters.net was launched in September 2007.
ChinesePoters.net is a platform that showcases authentic literature and historical information, without the intention of promoting or debating any political views. ChinesePosters.net attempts to provide information to help people gain a comprehensive understanding of the history of Chinese poster propaganda and modern China.
As a part of the China Poster Foundation, ChinesePosters.net is a strictly non-profit project. Any income obtained will be used to fund further acquisition, preservation, cataloging, research, and display of Chinese promotional posters.
Some of the posters in the IISH collection were obtained with funding from Friends of IISH, Zuster Mart Nienhuis Stichting, and SNS Reaal Foundation.
