Local or organic? Hybrid or electric? Is it paper, plastic, or neither? Nowadays, almost all decisions have an impact on the environment, and it often seems impossible to figure out which choices are most important.
That's why we created Treehugger, the only modern sustainable development website that provides advice, clear thinking, and inspiration for environmentalists and green lifestyle novices. Treehugger has 2.6 million monthly users and is one of the world's largest information websites dedicated to promoting the mainstream of sustainable development.
In this era of environmental change and opportunities, it is crucial to stay informed and make wise choices in a timely manner. But our sustainable development content library from the past 20 years can help you. Our articles can give you the confidence to purchase a better dishwasher, establish green beauty habits, or simply learn more about the world around you.
We don't care if you're just starting out with BYO bags or have been composting for decades, welcome to Treehugger. Sustainable development belongs to everyone.
Treehugger was founded by entrepreneur and ecological advocate Graham Hill in 2004. With its architectural and design background, Hill's vision is to make the website a mainstream carrier for promoting sustainable development and to achieve it in a modern style.
In 2007, Time magazine included Treehugger in its "Top 25 Blogs" list, and Nielsen Online ranked Treehugger as the top sustainability blogger. This small team gradually grew into an international expert team and subsequently received more praise.
The website was acquired by Discovery Communications in 2007 and taken over by Mother Nature Network (part of the Narrative Content Group) in 2012. In 2020, Mother Nature Network and Treehugger were both acquired by Dotdash Meredith, and now they have become a happy big family.
In a 2004 post about Treehugger's decision to report content standards, the team explained that the main goal of the website is to enable consumers to easily research and purchase environmentally friendly and attractive products and services, as well as inspire a sense of corporate responsibility. The standards of TreeHugger will evolve over time, "they wrote. As we gradually adapt to the new environment, our initial standards will be relatively relaxed
Since then, we have grown a lot and established ourselves firmly. But Treehugger's mission remains true to those initial values, and we will continue to push for the mainstream of sustainable development until the mission is accomplished.
