The basic theme of TrekEarth is to learn more about the world through photography. TrekEarth promotes this by allowing photographers to group their work by region in a supportive and organized environment. This is achieved through an easy-to-use system that encourages people to criticize each other's work. The forum integrated with the system aims to encourage discussions on specific photos, countries, and general topics. Due to its global reach, TrekEarth is fully capable of using multiple languages, allowing for as many viewers as possible. Ultimately, TrekEarth depends on the politeness, honesty, and participation of its members. By reviewing the terms of service, the TrekEarth community will remain loyal to itself and be helpful to everyone.
TrekEarth was created by Adam Silverman and launched in October 2002. Although most of the development of TrekeArtth took place in the summer of 2002, the initial planning began with Adam's early project TrekKapan.com over two years ago. Designed to facilitate access to photos from various parts of Japan, a plan was soon formulated to expand this feature globally, allowing members to display and comment on photos from around the world.
