Founded in 1880, the National Gallery of Canada has played an important role in Canadian culture for more than a hundred years.
The Gallery houses works from ancient to modern times and is one of the worlds finest collections of Aboriginal and Canadian art, as well as masterpieces from many other artistic traditions. In addition to exhibiting artworks, the Gallery preserves, researches and shares works in a variety of media, including photography, sculpture, painting, installation and decorative art. The Gallerys mission is to share visual art with Canadians, and it works with artists and arts organizations across the country and around the world to share our shared stories through art.

Located in Ottawa, the Gallery is housed in a magnificent, light-filled glass and granite building designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie.
