Science.gov is the official website of the U.S. government that provides easy access to a vast amount of scientific research funded by the federal government, without having to know which agency funded the research. Research outputs include scientific and technical reports, peer-reviewed scholarly publications, digital data, software, conference reports and proceedings, and other scientific and technical information released by federal agencies as a result of their research investments.

Originally launched in 2002, Science.gov searches content from multiple federal agencies that fund scientific research and provides top results from those agencies, giving users the most relevant results for the information they are searching for. Unlike typical web search engines that crawl and index web content at an unknown frequency, Science.gov uses search technology that retrieves results in real time. This ensures that Science.gov can search and retrieve the latest content.

The latest version of Science.gov is in beta, which means the site has many new features, but some are also being optimized. Key features include:

  • Modern design to improve user experience
  • Website accessibility updates
  • New content about the U.S. governments policies and initiatives to promote open science and public access, and policies to protect the integrity of federal science and scientific activities

Science.gov is overseen by CENDI, an interagency working group of senior scientific and technical information managers representing a large portion of the federal R&D budget.
