TED was founded in 1984 as a conference that integrates technology, entertainment, and design, but today it spans many global communities and initiatives, exploring every aspect from science and business to education, art, and global issues. In addition to the hundreds of TED talks planned for our annual conference and published on TED.com, we also produce original podcasts, short video series, animated TED education courses, and television programs that have been translated into over 100 languages and distributed worldwide through partnerships. Every year, over 3000 independently held TEDx events bring people together to share ideas and bridge differences in communities across continents. Through bold projects, TED has helped drive over $3 billion in funding for projects aimed at making the world more beautiful, sustainable, and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative aimed at accelerating the resolution of the climate crisis and mobilizing a movement towards a net zero future.
