Treehugger is the only modern sustainable development website that provides advice, clarity, and inspiration for environmentalists and green lifestyle novices.
Who are we
Is it local or organic? Hybrid or electric? Is it paper or plastic, or neither? Almost all decisions today will affect the environment, and figuring out which choices are most important often feels impossible.
That's why we created Treehugger, the only modern sustainable development website that provides advice, clarity, and inspiration for environmentalists and green lifestyle novices. Treehugger has 2.6 million monthly users and is one of the world's largest information websites dedicated to promoting mainstream sustainable development.
In this era of environmental change and opportunities, it is crucial to stay informed and make wise choices. But we have a sustainable development content library of nearly 20 years that can help you. Our articles can give you the confidence to purchase a better dishwasher, establish a green beauty program, or simply learn more about the world around you.
We don't care if you're just starting out with BYO bags or have been composting for decades, welcome to Treehugger. Everyone enjoys sustainability.
Our history
Treehugger was founded by entrepreneur and ecological advocate Graham Hill in 2004. Hill has an architectural and design background, and its vision is to use the site as a vehicle to drive mainstream sustainable development and achieve this goal in a modern way.
In 2007, Time magazine included Treehugger in its list of "Top 25 Blogs", and Nielsen Online ranked Treehugger as the top sustainable development blog. The growth of small-scale staff into an international team of experts brings with it more accolades.
The website was acquired by Discovery Communications in 2007 and taken over by Mother Nature Network (part of the Narrative Content Group) in 2012. In 2020, Mother Nature Network and Treehugger were both acquired by Dotdash Meredith, and now they are a happy big family.
In a 2004 post about the standards used by Treehugger in determining coverage, the team explained that the main goal of the website is to make it easier for consumers to research and purchase environmentally friendly but eye-catching products and services, and to inspire a sense of corporate responsibility. They wrote, "TreeHugger's standards will evolve over time. As we obtain sea routes, our initial methods will become loose
Since then, we have grown a lot and our feet are very stable. But Treehugger's mission remains true to these original values, and we will continue to drive the mainstream of sustainable development until the work is done.
