The American Institute of Classical Research in Athens was established in 1881 and provided a base for graduate students and scholars from about 190 North American colleges and universities.The courses of these institutions include classical archeology, classical literature, linguistics, Byzantine, Otthan, and modern Greek research, archeology, political science, history and other social sciences.Other facilities are deemed to be an extension of their own graduate courses.The graduate course of the school is regarded by many institutions as a requirement for a comprehensive doctorate degree in the research field in Greece.In fact, many teachers in these core disciplines in American universities today are alumni/AE of the school, which shows the existence of a large number of consortiums.

Since 1931, American schools have been archeological excavations in Guringus since 1896.It is also an administrative base for all other archeological research by North American institutions in Greece.There are two internationally renowned libraries Blegen and GennaDius in Athens, as well as an important archaeological scientific research laboratory -Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory.Published an important monograph on the Office of Princeton, New Jersey and an academic quarterly issue of award -winning.

American schools are non -profit private institutions of 501 (C) (3).In order to support its projects and facilities, the school relies on its own donation income, the funding of the foundation and private charity.

Our institution is a member of the Council of the American Overseas Research Center.Founded in 1981, CAORC is a non -profit private alliance composed of an independent overseas research center.
