Bluebell Ice Cream | The Best Ice Cream in the Country

It all started on a hot summer day in 1907

A group of local businessmen in Brenham, Texas decided to establish the Brenham Cream Company, using surplus butter brought by local farmers to make butter. A few years later, the cream factory began making ice cream and delivering it to neighbors by carriage. In 1930, the company was named after the local bluebell wildflowers in Texas and renamed Bluebell Cream. Butter was produced until 1958, and Blue Bell began to focus full-time on making ice cream.

Today, our product lineup includes Bluebell ice cream, sugar free ice cream, ice cream, and frozen snacks. Each one is distributed to supermarkets and food stores through our direct store delivery plan. Direct delivery from the store means that no one handles the products from production to arrival at the grocery store except for Blue Bell employees. This is one of the ways that Bluebell ensures consumers receive the freshest possible ice cream.

Our growth has been slow - until the 1980s when Blue Bell went public outside of Texas - but it has remained stable. Although Blue Bell is only sold in some supermarkets nationwide, it is one of the best-selling ice creams in the country. Our products are sold in 23 states.
