AILabs. tw is a privately funded research institution located in Taipei, Taiwan. We expect artificial intelligence to have a significant transformative impact on the technology field, and our goal is to leverage Taiwan's unique advantages to build AI solutions to solve world problems.

The Taiwan Artificial Intelligence Laboratory was jointly established with the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) on April 27, 2017. Minister of Science and Technology Chen Liangji stated that the laboratory will help strengthen artificial intelligence expertise and innovation based growth, in line with the country's significant investment in digital infrastructure. The government plans to allocate NT $5 billion (US $167 million) for the construction of artificial intelligence infrastructure and the promotion of technology talent development under the Cabinet's Eight Year Forward looking Infrastructure Plan (FIP). Taiwan's Minister of Digital Affairs, Audrey Tang, is a renowned computer programmer and digital entrepreneur who hopes that Taiwan's AI Labs can help promote AI technology and integrate local academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, and small and medium-sized enterprises through data exchange and open source projects.

Taiwan maintains the largest share of global IC wafer fab production capacity, and the 1995 National Health Insurance reform has compiled comprehensive medical data for over 20 years. Due to the innovative support of cloud and IoT for insightful data collection capabilities and digital data driving artificial intelligence research, AILabs.tw is at the forefront of data innovation.

Taiwan has abundant local talents in the field of artificial intelligence. National Taiwan University is the first school in Asia to enter the top 50 artificial intelligence universities list (source: NetEase Wuzhen Artificial Intelligence Summit 2016 Most Influential Artificial Intelligence Schools Report). We believe that with highly educated talents and strong academic partnerships, we will achieve incredible results

Founder Ethan You

Ethan, who previously served as Chief Development Manager at US tech giant Microsoft, is known as the founder of PTT, which has grown into one of Taiwan's most influential online forums since its launch in 1995.
