The National Art Museum of China is a national museum of plastic arts that focuses on collecting, researching, and showcasing modern and contemporary Chinese art works.

It was officially opened to the public in 1963. The main building has a construction area of over 18000 square meters, with a total of 17 exhibition halls on floors one to five. In 1995, a modern collection library with an area of 4100 square meters was built after the main building.

The National Art Museum of China collects over 100000 pieces of various art works, mainly from before and after the founding of the People's Republic of China, as well as masterpieces from the late Ming, Qing, and early Republic of China periods. In recent years, the National Art Museum of China has received donations from artists or their families, and its collection has been increasing day by day.

Over the past 40 years since its establishment, the National Art Museum of China has held thousands of influential art exhibitions and exhibitions of works by renowned artists both domestically and internationally. The new National Art Museum of China will be built north of the National Stadium (Bird's Nest).
