Tianjin Medical University

Tianjin Medical University, formerly known as Tianjin Medical College, was founded in 1951. It is a higher medical school approved by the former State Council after the founding of New China. Professor Zhu Xianyi, a famous endocrinologist and medical educator, was the first president. In June 1994, Tianjin Medical College and Tianjin Second Medical College were formally established to form Tianjin Medical University. In December 1996, it became the only municipal college in Tianjin that was a key construction project of the national "211 Project". In October 2015, it became a university jointly built by the Tianjin Municipal People's Government, the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Education. In September 2017, it was selected as a national "world-class discipline construction university".

Tianjin Medical University is actively engaged in the cause of medical higher education in my country. It is one of the first two medical schools approved by the state to pilot an eight-year system, and one of the first 15 schools to pilot a seven-year system. The school currently has two campuses, one on Xiangqitai Road and the other on Guangdong Road, and seven university hospitals. There are 22 undergraduate majors, 19 colleges (departments) and one independent college. There are 10,912 full-time undergraduate students, including 5,432 undergraduates, 3,641 master's students, 948 doctoral students, and 891 international students.

Including the university hospital, the school currently has 8,666 professional and technical personnel of various types, including 772 senior and 1,518 associate senior. There are 132 national talents, including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 1 foreign academician; 12 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund and 9 winners of the Excellent Youth Science Fund; 8 leading talents of the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program" and 2 young top talents, 15 Yangtze River Scholars of the Ministry of Education, and 15 candidates of the National Hundred Thousand Talents Project; 4 "973" chief scientists of the Ministry of Science and Technology; 17 experts with outstanding contributions from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security; 13 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions from the National Health Commission, and 18 people in the "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program" of the Ministry of Education.

There are 11 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 1 Tianjin first-class undergraduate professional construction site, 5 national characteristic majors, 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot, 2 national teaching teams, 22 Tianjin teaching teams, 31 Tianjin teaching masters, 5 teaching teams and 10 teachers have won the title of "Excellent Teaching Team and Excellent Teacher of Ideological and Political Courses in the Fight against the Epidemic" in Tianjin; 7 national quality courses, 5 national quality resource sharing courses, 3 national quality video open courses, 3 national bilingual demonstration courses, and 1 national There are 6 first-class undergraduate courses, 38 first-class undergraduate construction courses at the municipal level in Tianjin; 10 demonstration courses of ideological and political education at the municipal level in Tianjin (excellent team, teaching master); 3 awards for the first national textbook construction, 1 advanced individual in national textbook construction, 6 excellent textbooks of ideological and political education at the municipal level in Tianjin; 3 national-level talent training model innovation experimental areas, 3 national-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national-level extracurricular innovation practice bases for college students, 2 national clinical teaching training demonstration centers, and the virtual teaching and research room of medical imaging technology was selected as the first batch of virtual teaching and research rooms for professional construction by the Ministry of Education. In 2002 and 2008, the school passed the evaluation of undergraduate teaching and seven-year higher medical education teaching work of the Ministry of Education with excellent results. In 2012, 2013 and 2014, it passed the certification of nursing, stomatology and clinical medicine of the Ministry of Education respectively. In 2017, it passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. Since 2009, the school has won 1 first prize and 3 second prizes in national teaching achievements, 12 first prizes and 15 second prizes in municipal teaching achievements. In 1997, the school formally established the International Medical College, the education management department for international students in China. The source of international students comes from 105 countries. The scale and quality of international student education are among the best in the country's medical schools. There are 8 national English-taught brand courses for international students in China, 25 English-taught brand courses for international students in Tianjin. "Establishment and Practice of Full English Teaching and Quality Assurance System for Clinical Medicine Majors for International Students in China" won the first prize of national teaching achievements. In 2010, the first English Teacher Training Center (Medicine) for International Students in China of the Ministry of Education was established in the school.

There are 10 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points and 2 doctoral professional degree authorization points; 11 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points and 6 master's professional degree authorization points. There are 6 postdoctoral mobile stations. There are 431 doctoral supervisors and 1,300 master's supervisors.

There are 5 national key disciplines, 18 Tianjin key disciplines, 4 Tianjin first-class disciplines, and 4 Tianjin characteristic disciplines (groups); 8 disciplines are ranked in the top 1% of the global Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database, among which clinical medicine is ranked in the top 1‰ of the ESI global ranking; there are 23 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, 15 research institutes, and the Tianjin Collaborative Innovation Center for Medical Epigenetics has been approved as a provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation center. There is 1 international science and technology cooperation base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 13 international science and technology cooperation bases of Tianjin, 1 innovation team in key areas of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and 2 innovation teams of the Ministry of Education, which have received rolling support. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, the university has undertaken 2,691 provincial and ministerial-level vertical projects with a total funding of more than 1.4 billion yuan; it has won 131 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards, including 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress, 4 outstanding scientific research achievements of higher education institutions of the Ministry of Education, 1 Ho Leung Ho Lee Award, 1 Tianjin Science and Technology Major Achievement Award, 1 Tianjin International Science and Technology Cooperation Award, 3 special prizes and 22 first prizes of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress, and 1 first prize of Tianjin Natural Science. In 2016, the university was approved as the "Innovative Talent Training Demonstration Base" by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The university hospital of the university has 13 national key clinical specialties and 16 Tianjin key clinical specialties. 4 university hospitals have been approved as 10 national clinical medical research centers (Tianjin branch), among which the cancer hospital is the first batch of national clinical medical research centers for malignant tumors; the general hospital, cancer hospital, second hospital, eye hospital, and mental health center have been approved as 11 Tianjin clinical medical research centers.

The school has established academic exchanges and cooperation with 98 universities and research institutions in 26 countries and regions, carried out high-level international cooperation in the fields of medicine and biomedicine, hired 159 world-renowned medical experts and professors as honorary professors and visiting professors of various disciplines of the school, and established a "Foreign Expert Advisory Committee" to promote the international development of the school.
