Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics is located in Zhengzhou, a famous historical and cultural city in China. It is located in the southern part of the North China Plain, bordering the Yellow River to the north and Songshan Mountain to the west. It has convenient transportation and is the only full-time undergraduate college with distinctive aviation characteristics in Henan Province.

The school was founded in 1949, the same age as the Republic. It was called Pingyuan Province Finance and Economics School at that time and was affiliated to the Ministry of Aviation Industry. In 1964, 16 aviation schools across the country were adjusted and renamed Zhengzhou Aviation Industry School. In 1978, it was upgraded to Zhengzhou Aviation Industry Management College, and in 1984 it was upgraded to Zhengzhou Aviation Industry Management College (undergraduate). In 1989, it obtained the right to confer bachelor's degrees. In 1999, the school's affiliation changed from being supervised by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China to being jointly built by the central and local governments, with Henan Province as the main body of daily management. In 2009, it passed the review of the project construction of the master's degree unit. In 2013, it was awarded the master's degree awarding unit. In 2017, it was selected as a university in the national central and western colleges and universities basic capacity construction project planning. In December 2017, it became a university jointly built by the Henan Provincial People's Government and the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and entered the ranks of provincial and ministerial co-construction universities. In 2020, it was selected as a university for the construction of characteristic backbone disciplines in Henan Province. In 2021, it was approved as a general project construction unit for doctoral degrees in Henan Province.

The total value of fixed assets is more than 1.642 billion yuan, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 320 million yuan. The library has a collection of 2.5567 million books, 580,300 electronic books, 1.4616 million electronic journals, 916 paper journals, and 57 Chinese and foreign databases. The sports venue covers an area of ​​more than 119,000 square meters.

The school has eight major disciplines: management, engineering, economics, law, literature, science, art, and education. It consists of 16 teaching colleges (departments), 1 college, 1 Sino-foreign cooperatively-run institution - South Ural College, and 1 college of continuing education. There are currently 7 first-level master's degree authorization points, 15 professional master's degree authorization points, 2 provincial characteristic backbone discipline groups, 3 provincial key first-level disciplines, and 4 provincial key second-level disciplines. There are 64 undergraduate majors, including 3 national characteristic majors and 9 provincial characteristic majors; 7 national first-class professional construction points, 18 provincial first-class professional construction points; 9 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilots. The school recruits students from 28 provinces (cities, regions) across the country. All ordinary undergraduate majors in Henan Province are included in the first batch of enrollment. There are currently 31,092 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students, and international students. The school currently has 2,083 faculty and staff, including 632 professors and associate professors, and 577 teachers with doctoral degrees.
