Chongqing University

Chongqing University is a national key university directly under the central government and the Ministry of Education. It is a high-level research-oriented comprehensive university that is a key construction project of the national "211 Project" and "985 Project", and a national "World-Class University Construction University (Class A)".

The school was founded in 1929 and developed into a national comprehensive university with six colleges of liberal arts, science, engineering, business, law, and medicine in the 1940s. After the national college and department adjustment in 1952, it became a multi-disciplinary university with engineering as its main discipline directly under the Ministry of Higher Education (the Ministry of Higher Education was merged into the Ministry of Education in 1958). It was designated as a national key university in 1960. Since the reform and opening up, the university has vigorously developed humanities and social sciences disciplines, promoted the coordinated development of multiple disciplines, and gradually developed into a comprehensive research university. In 1998, the university became a key university in the national "211 Project". In May 2000, the former Chongqing University, Chongqing Jianzhu University, and Chongqing Architectural College merged to form the new Chongqing University. In 2001, the university became a key university in the "985 Project". In 2004, the university was identified as a centrally managed university. In September 2017, the university was selected as a national "world-class university construction university (Class A)".

The school has a complete range of disciplines, covering 11 disciplines including science, engineering, economics, management, law, literature, history, philosophy, medicine, education, and art. It has 7 faculties and 35 colleges, as well as an affiliated cancer hospital, an affiliated Three Gorges Hospital, an affiliated Fuling Hospital, and an affiliated central hospital. There are more than 5,300 faculty and staff, more than 49,000 students, including more than 22,000 graduate students, more than 26,000 undergraduates, and more than 1,700 international students. The campus covers an area of ​​more than 5,300 acres, with Campus A, Campus B, Campus C and Huxi Campus.

Talent training
Taking the mission of cultivating "industry elites and national pillars", it has cultivated and delivered more than 400,000 high-quality talents for national and local economic and social development, and cultivated a large number of outstanding scientists, educators, entrepreneurs and engineering and technical personnel. More than 40 people have been elected as academicians of the two academies. In recent years, we have conscientiously implemented the spirit of the National Conference on Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities and the National Education Conference, built ten education systems, established six education bases, and were selected as one of the first 10 national pilot universities for comprehensive reform of "three-dimensional education" and 20 universities under the construction of the "Innovation and Development Center for Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities". We have vigorously implemented the "Undergraduate Education 2029 Action Plan" to create first-class undergraduate education. We have established an undergraduate college, fully implemented large-category enrollment and large-category training, and strengthened general education. 43 majors have been selected as national first-class undergraduate majors, and 30 courses have been selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate courses; mathematics and physics majors have been included in the "Strengthening Basics Plan". We have continued to deepen the reform of the training system and mechanism to create excellent graduate education. Discipline construction
Adhere to the development of discipline connotation as the core, follow the idea of ​​"strengthening engineering, consolidating science, revitalizing liberal arts, prospering social sciences, expanding medicine, and improving information science", establish and improve the discipline optimization layout mechanism that adapts to the rapid changes in science and technology, and the system and mechanism suitable for producing future leading disciplines, and strive to build a first-class discipline ecology. Continue to increase the construction of the three major discipline groups of "advanced manufacturing", "smart energy" and "new urbanization", and in accordance with the new round of "double first-class" construction plan, promote the characteristic and advantageous disciplines such as machinery, electrical engineering, and civil engineering to be the first to reach world-class. The School of Medicine and the School of Medicine were established successively, and the medical discipline was promoted to accelerate the development of medical disciplines from a high starting point. The "Basic Liberal Arts Revitalization Action Plan" and the "Basic Science Excellence Action Plan" were launched to accelerate the overall development level of basic disciplines. Engineering and materials science have successively entered the top 1‰ disciplines in the world of ESI, and 12 disciplines have entered the top 1% in the world of ESI; 6 disciplines including metallurgy, instrumentation, mining, machinery, civil engineering, and transportation have entered the top 50 of the world-class disciplines of "soft science".

Talent team
Vigorously implement the strategy of strengthening the school with talents, systematically build a "3+7" personnel talent system and a "pyramid" of talent introduction and cultivation at four levels and seven categories, actively create a talent development atmosphere of "near ones are happy and far ones come", and stimulate the endogenous power of continuous gathering of high-level talents with advanced systems and mechanisms. There are more than 3,100 full-time teachers, including more than 200 national talents such as academicians, more than 1,000 doctoral supervisors, and more than 2,000 professional and technical personnel at or above the level of associate senior.

Scientific research
Deepen the reform of scientific research management and services, build a "1+5" new scientific research and innovation system, and promote the output of high-quality results with new systems and mechanisms. Strengthen the connotation construction of the innovation system, fully implement the basic research Everest plan, the talent cultivation plan for major project results, the key research base construction plan, and the action plan for military-civilian integration development. Strengthen the forward-looking layout of scientific research, fully integrate into the construction of Western (Chongqing) Science City, promote the construction of Chongqing University Science Center, cultivate and build the "ultra-transient experiment" large scientific device, promote the establishment of interdisciplinary cross-research platforms such as the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute and the Smart City Research Institute, and plan to build high-level original innovation platforms such as synthetic biology, future chips, and quantum material science. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, 23 new national and provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms have been added, more than 2,400 national scientific research projects have been approved (including more than 40 major projects with a total investment of more than 10 million yuan), and more than 60 national awards and provincial and ministerial science and technology awards have been won. The first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the construction of large scientific facilities, major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and papers published in the journals of Nature and Science have all achieved historic breakthroughs. The total scientific research funding has repeatedly set new highs (reaching 2.285 billion yuan in 2020), and the number of high-level papers published and the number of authorized invention patents have increased significantly. Implement the humanities and social sciences prosperity plan, obtain national key research and development plan projects, win the Lu Xun Literature Award, and continue to promote the construction of new high-end think tank platforms such as the "Chongqing Institute of China's Engineering and Technology Development Strategy", "Local Government Governance Collaborative Innovation Center", "Urbanization and Regional Innovation Pole Development Research Center", and "Chongqing Talent Development Research Institute" to serve scientific decision-making. 7 journals hosted by the school were selected as authoritative and core journals.

International Cooperation
Vigorously promote the international development strategy, actively integrate into the development of the "Belt and Road" and the Western Land-Sea New Corridor, strengthen substantive cooperation with world-class universities and research institutions, and have established stable and good cooperative relations with 186 universities and research institutions in 32 countries and regions. It has nearly 20 international cooperation platforms such as national discipline innovation and intelligence introduction bases and the Ministry of Education's International Joint Laboratory. The cooperative education between Chongqing University and Cincinnati Joint College has achieved remarkable results. Encourage and support teachers and students to go abroad for study and exchange, and the average number of students going abroad for study and exchange has reached more than 3,700 per year. Dedicated to the promotion of Chinese culture, it has established Confucius Institutes in Betong, Thailand, Pisa, Italy, and La Trobe University, Australia. Selected as one of the first batch of "Study Abroad Demonstration Bases in China" by the Ministry of Education, actively building the "Study Abroad Major" brand, and building 45 master's and doctoral programs taught in English and more than 300 courses taught in English.

Social Service

Deepen and expand school-local cooperation, and a number of scientific and technological innovation platforms and new high-end research and development institutions such as Nanjing Research Institute have taken root. The lunar micro-ecosphere led by the university has planted the first green leaf on the moon, completing the first lunar biological growth and cultivation experiment. The first national university board approved by the former State Education Commission was established, and the university science and technology park was recognized as one of the first 22 national university science and technology parks in the country.
