Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine is located in the heart of Huangpu, a place of innovation, cultural diversity and inclusiveness, surrounded by red walls and sycamore trees. Its predecessor was the Shanghai Second Medical College, which was formed by the merger of St. John's University School of Medicine (1896-1952), Aurora University School of Medicine (1911-1952) and Tongde Medical College (1918-1952) during the adjustment of colleges and departments in universities across the country in 1952. In 1985, it was renamed Shanghai Second Medical University. In 1997, the school passed the "211 Project" project. In July 2005, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Second Medical University merged to form the new Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, which was jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal Government and entered the ranks of "985" universities. In November 2010, the college became one of the first ten key universities jointly built by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education. The School of Medicine currently has two campuses in Chongqing South Road and Minhang.
