The Open Library is an initiative put forward by the Internet Archive. It is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, which aims to establish a digital library to collect Internet websites and other cultural works of art in digital form. Other projects include Wayback Machine, Archive.org and archive-it.org
Create a webpage for each published book. This is a noble but achievable goal.
To build it, we need billions of book records, a brand new database infrastructure for processing large amounts of dynamic information, a wiki interface, multilingual support, and people willing to contribute time, effort, and book data.
So far, we have collected approximately 30 million records (currently 20 million records on the website), and more records are being collected. We have built the database infrastructure and wiki interface, allowing you to search for millions of book records, narrow down search results by aspect, and search for the full text of one million scanned books.
The Open Library is a project of the Internet Archive, a non-profit organization, and part of the funding comes from the California State Library. We have a small team of excellent programmers who have achieved a lot, but we cannot do it all alone! This is an open project - software is open, data is open, documents are open, and websites are also open.
