Let VisitBritain show you a whole new perspective on the UK’s diverse cities, modern transformations, historic icons and green spaces filled with unexpected gems.
We are the British Tourist Authority (BTA), operating under the VisitBritain and VisitEngland brands. As the national tourist board, we work to raise the profile of the UK, increase the number and value of tourism exports and grow England’s visitor economy, working with organisations of all sizes and specialities.
We are funded by the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and established under the Tourism Development Act 1969 as a non-departmental public body.
VisitBritain drives tourism growth in countries and territories, making the benefits felt by local communities, encouraging visitors to visit the UK now.
VisitBritain leads and delivers a sustainable and resilient visitor economy by simplifying England’s tourism regional structure, providing business support, guidance and training, and championing domestic tourism.
Collectively, we are a trusted advisor to industry and government on the visitor economy, providing research and insight.
We operate in all UK countries and territories as well as 21 overseas markets.
We work with SMEs and destination partners to support the sustainable and resilient development of England’s tourism industry. Through the Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) programme, we are transforming England’s visitor economy landscape and building a strong network of local leadership and collaboration to enhance the value of tourism across the country.
VisitBritain supports all regions of England through the work of its Regional Development Teams to ensure national, regional and local objectives are aligned and support regional diversification and visitor economic growth. This includes working with VisitBritain to ensure England’s destinations and products are promoted internationally. Our Industry Development Team is committed to working with and supporting SMEs across England on key issues to support positive impact and growth, including sustainability, accessibility and quality of hospitality and service.
Our overseas network covers the whole of the UK, accounting for around three quarters of inbound tourism spend. We cover Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, the GCC countries, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA.
We are a partnership, working with national tourist boards in Scotland, Wales and London and partners, as well as global industry and non-industry partners to extend our reach and meet the needs of our clients.
Our international activities include consumer marketing activities under the GREAT Britain campaign. Our international reach enables us to build relationships, understand our global customers and market the UK effectively. We gather global market intelligence, develop and maintain relationships with international media, work closely with the travel industry, source partners locally and oversee public diplomacy liaisons.
With our digital expertise, we also ensure that relevant content is distributed to our clients through the most appropriate channels, enabling us to reach markets beyond our physical presence.
