We enhance our clients' data knowledge to meet their unique needs and ensure their success. Our goal is to continue improving our methods to increase efficiency, save time, and help you fully utilize data.

IFI CLAIMS Patent Services was established in 1955 as Information for Industry, Inc. (IFI). Electronic data and proprietary search software first appeared in the 1960s, with a focus on chemical patent information. At that time, IFI created the first in-depth US chemical patent index, the Uniterm Index, with an average of 20 to 25 keywords per US patent. The Uniterm Index was initially provided in a printed dual dictionary format. In 1967, IFI began providing the Uniterm Index in electronic form, equipped with proprietary search software for use by the company's information department.

In the 1970s, IFI's US patent database entered the field of interactive online search, becoming the first patent database provided by Lockheed Dialog Information Services. IFI continues to expand the depth and breadth of its US patent content to include all patented technologies, patent citations, changes in legal status, retransmissions, and published applications. The distribution channels have also expanded to include STN International and Questel.

Fairview Research is a data rich technology provider that acquired IFI CLAIMS from Wolters Kluwer in 2010 and expanded its business scope to include providing high-value data management services for global patent information across various industries.

Digital Science is a technology company that provides services to stakeholders across the entire research ecosystem and invested in IFI CLAIMS in 2017. This investment is part of its goal to diversify the search and analysis field by combining grant funding data, publication and citation data with patent data. Allow for better contextualization of research - from funding to publication to translation and impact.

In 2021, Digital Science fully acquired IFI CLAIMS.
