Fujian Medical University

Founded in 1937, Fujian Medical University is one of the earliest public undergraduate medical schools in my country. For more than 80 years, the school has adhered to the school motto of "diligence, rigor, truth-seeking, and innovation", and has forged the original intention of "pioneer in improving national health and pillar of the southeastern medical community". It has formed the school philosophy of "people-oriented, truth-seeking and perfection" and the school spirit of "self-improvement and pursuit of excellence", and has nurtured the school spirit of "respecting truth and kindness, sincerity and far-reaching", the teaching style of "virtue and dedication" and the style of study of "extensive learning and practice", which has promoted the continuous development of various undertakings of the school. In 2020, the school won the title of the second National Civilized Campus.

The school is a "double first-class" university in Fujian Province with a complete talent training system, focusing on medicine, coordinated development of multiple disciplines, and a complete talent training system. It is a health talent training center, medical science research center and medical and health service center in Fujian Province. There are currently two campuses, Shangjie and Taijiang, with a planned area of ​​about 1,550 acres. There are 21 colleges (departments) and 29 undergraduate majors. There are more than 13,590 teaching and medical staff (including affiliated hospitals) and more than 17,000 full-time students. It has carried out multi-level and multi-angle exchanges and cooperation with more than 120 universities and research institutes at home and abroad.

The school insists on taking talents as the first resource for development and implementing the "talent-strengthening school" strategy. There are 1,644 full-time teachers (including clinical teachers), of which 56.27% have doctoral degrees and 69.83% have senior professional titles. There are 47 national high-level talents, including those selected for the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program", winners of the National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund, national candidates for the Hundred Thousand Talents Project, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions from the State/Ministry of Health, candidates for the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, and backbone teachers of the Ministry of Education. There are 2 winners of the "Nightingale" Medal, 125 experts who have enjoyed special allowances from the State Council over the years, 2 national teaching teams and Huang Danian-style teacher teams in national universities; 509 provincial high-level talents, including Fujian Province's "Hundred Talents Program", Fujian Province's "Hundred Foreign Experts Program", Fujian Province's special reserve talents, and "Young Eagle Program" young top talents, and 8 Fujian Province Higher Education Science and Technology Innovation Teams.

The school takes talent cultivation as its core task, adheres to the moral education of people, and vigorously deepens education and teaching reforms. It has 4 national characteristic majors and 9 national first-class professional construction sites. It has won 4 national teaching achievement awards, 11 national first-class courses in online, offline, online and offline hybrid, social practice and virtual simulation experimental teaching, 4 national high-quality video open courses, high-quality resource sharing courses, high-quality courses, and English-taught brand courses for studying in China, 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 3 talent training model innovation experimental areas, professional comprehensive reform pilots, and college students' off-campus practical education bases, and is a pilot university for the "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education. There are nearly 200 provincial teaching achievement awards, characteristic majors and undergraduate teaching projects. The students trained by the school are known for their solid theoretical foundation and strong practical skills. Students in clinical medicine, stomatology, preventive medicine, nursing and other majors have participated in the national practicing physician (nurse) qualification examination for many years, and the pass rate is among the best in the country. Since 2016, students majoring in clinical medicine have participated in the National College Students Clinical Skills Competition of Higher Medical Colleges and won 1 special prize in the national finals and 1 special prize in the East China Division. They have won the first prize in the East China Division for seven consecutive years and have won the first, second and third prizes in national competitions. MBBS program international students have achieved great results in participating in the National Clinical Thinking and Skills Competition for International Students in China. Our graduates are widely welcomed by employers, and the employment rate has remained at a high level in recent years. Many alumni have become leaders and backbones in the medical and health front in my country, especially in Fujian Province.

The school actively connects with national and regional strategic needs and strives to create influential high-level disciplines and scientific research platforms. There are 6 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees in clinical medicine, basic medicine, stomatology, public health and preventive medicine, pharmacy, and nursing, and 2 doctoral professional degree authorization points in clinical medicine and stomatology; 9 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees and 9 master's professional degree authorization points. There are 2 postdoctoral research mobile stations in clinical medicine and basic medicine, 4 postdoctoral workstations, and 2 academician workstations. Four disciplines of clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, chemistry, and neuroscience and behavior are among the top 1% in the ESI global ranking. There are 6 provincial first-level disciplines such as clinical medicine and basic medicine. There are 47 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms such as the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Tumor Immunotherapy Development and the Key Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Malignant Tumors of the Ministry of Education. There are 2 national clinical medical research centers in Fujian Province, including the Fujian Branch of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases and the Fujian Branch of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, it has undertaken more than 5,000 scientific research projects of various types and published more than 8,400 SCI papers. It has won 174 awards including the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, the Fujian Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Fujian Medical Science and Technology Award.

The school has 4 directly affiliated hospitals, including the Affiliated Union Hospital, the Affiliated First Hospital, the Affiliated Second Hospital, and the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital. It has 8 clinical medical schools, including the Union Clinical Medical College, the First Clinical Medical College, the Second Clinical Medical College, the Third Clinical Medical College, the Provincial Clinical Medical College, the Fujian General Clinical Medical College, the Women and Children's Clinical Medical College, and the Oncology Clinical Medical College. There are 11 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 23 clinical teaching hospitals, and 96 professional practice teaching bases in Fujian Province. The affiliated hospitals have 14 national key clinical specialties such as neurology, hematology, cardiac and vascular surgery, and general surgery, and 35 provincial key clinical specialties. The Affiliated Union Hospital and the Affiliated First Hospital are the first batch of high-level hospitals in Fujian Province. They are both included in the "Top 100 Chinese Hospitals" of the Fudan University Hospital Management Institute and the "Top 100 Chinese Hospitals Competitiveness and Top Hospitals" of the Hong Kong Alibi Hospital Management Research Center. The Fujian Hospital of Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University (Binhai Campus of the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University), jointly built by the Affiliated First Hospital and Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, is one of the first national regional medical centers in the country. The Affiliated Union Hospital is the leading construction unit of the comprehensive national regional medical center, the Affiliated Second Hospital is the first provincial regional medical center, and the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital is the construction unit of the specialized national regional medical center.
