Nanjing University of Finance and Economics

Nanjing University of Finance and Economics was founded in 1956 as Nanjing Grain School of the Ministry of Grain. It is one of the first grain colleges founded by New China. In 1981, Nanjing Grain Economics College was established on the basis of the original Nanjing Grain School. In 1993, the school was renamed Nanjing Institute of Economics. In 1999, Nanjing Material School was merged into Nanjing Institute of Economics. In 2000, Nanjing Institute of Economics, Jiangsu College of Finance and Economics, and Jiangsu Economic Management Cadre College merged to form the new Nanjing Institute of Economics. In 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was officially renamed Nanjing University of Finance and Economics. In 2011, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and the State Administration of Grain signed an agreement to jointly build Nanjing University of Finance and Economics. In 2019, the State Administration of Grain and Material Reserves signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the People's Government of Jiangsu Province to fully support the development of the school. In 2021, the school was approved to review and add a doctoral degree-granting institution that needs to be strengthened, and was approved as a Class B university in the Jiangsu High-level University Construction Peak Plan.

Nanjing University of Finance and Economics has now become a high-level university in Jiangsu with economics and management as the main disciplines, and economics, management, law, engineering, science, literature, art and other multi-disciplinary support and coordinated development. After years of reform and development, the school's reputation has rapidly expanded, the quality of education has been continuously improved, the comprehensive strength has been significantly enhanced, the social reputation has been comprehensively improved, and all undertakings have stepped onto a new level, showing a strong momentum of development and a new atmosphere of reform.

The school has three campuses in Xianlin, Fujian Road and Qiaotou, covering an area of ​​1.207 million square meters and a total construction area of ​​713,600 square meters. There are 23 teaching institutions. There are more than 16,000 undergraduate students and more than 3,000 doctoral and master's students. In recent years, the number and quality of national scientific research projects of the school have continued to rise. In 2018, 5 major national key projects were approved. In 2019, more than 70 national projects were approved, and the number of projects achieved a major breakthrough, ranking among the top universities in the country in the field of finance and economics. In 2020, 5 major national key projects were approved, and the level of the projects was significantly improved.

The Industrial Economics Research, sponsored by the school, is the first professional academic journal in the field of industrial economics in the country. It was selected as a source journal of the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) of Nanjing University, and won the most popular journal from 2016 to 2020 and the most popular journal of economics in 2020 by the National Philosophy and Social Sciences Documentation Center. The Journal of Nanjing University of Finance and Economics was selected as a source journal of the extended version of the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) of Nanjing University, and an extended journal of the AMI Comprehensive Evaluation (A Journal) of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences Journals. It was rated as a national excellent social science journal and a first-level journal in Jiangsu Province.

The school is oriented to the major needs of national, regional and industry development, and vigorously cultivates characteristic and advantageous research fields to provide strong intellectual support for serving the country's major development strategies and serving the regional economic, social and industry development. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has carried out continuous research on major issues in the national food security strategy and food circulation, undertaken a number of major research projects on the development of the national food industry, published a number of special research reports such as the China Food Development Report and the Yangtze River Delta Food Development Report, developed a number of new, efficient and fast food storage and transportation technologies and food circulation informatization and Internet of Things engineering technologies, and formed a number of insightful results in food circulation system, mechanism innovation and enterprise management innovation. Many food security policy research results such as the food circulation modernization index and evaluation system have been adopted and applied by government departments. The school was approved as the National Grain Industry (Nanjing) Education and Training Base. Focusing on the needs of the province's economic and social development, especially the major practical needs of the development of modern service industries, the school has vigorously strengthened the theoretical research, application research and development, achievement promotion and policy consultation of modern service industries. It has introduced, incubated and cultivated more than 30 modern service enterprises, undertaken more than 700 horizontal projects of various types, and written more than 30 special research reports such as the Jiangsu Modern Service Industry Development Research Report. The research results have been published on platforms such as Guangming Daily and "Study Power". In recent years, several proposals of the school have been filed by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and submitted to relevant ministries and commissions of the State Council for consultation and handling. The school has received special letters of reply from relevant ministries and commissions of the State Council, and many suggestions have been clearly adopted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the State Administration of Grain and Material Reserves. Dozens of reports and suggestions have been approved by the main leaders of the province and the main leaders of Nanjing City, and many achievements have been adopted by government departments such as the General Office of the Provincial Government, the Provincial Bureau of Grain and Material Reserves, and the Provincial Development and Reform Commission, actively contributing to national and local theoretical innovation and policy formulation.

It has established cooperative and exchange relations with more than 60 universities in more than 20 countries and regions and international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. In cooperation with Massey University in New Zealand, a non-independent legal person Sino-foreign cooperatively-run school-running institution, Massey College, was established. It is the first Sino-foreign cooperatively-run school-running institution established by New Zealand universities in Jiangsu Province. In cooperation with the University of Waterloo in Canada, an undergraduate education program in business administration (environmental business) was held. In cooperation with the State University of New York, the first Confucius Institute for Business in the United States was established. It hosts the Confucius Classroom in South Africa. The school has established an international cooperation and exchange platform for students that combines medium- and long-term projects with short-term projects, and degree projects with non-degree projects with the University of California, Berkeley, Cornell University, Imperial College London, University of Southampton, University of Exeter, University of Manitoba, McGill University, Wageningen University, and Massey University in New Zealand. A cooperative scientific research platform has been established with the University of Manitoba in Canada and the University of Marburg in Germany. The school's accounting major was selected as one of the first batch of international talent training brand professional construction projects in Jiangsu Province during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, and the "International Cooperation Joint Laboratory for Food Circulation and Safety" was selected as one of the first batch of international cooperation joint laboratory construction projects in Jiangsu Province during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. The school's education for foreign students has reached a certain scale, covering short-term study tours, language training, undergraduate education, and graduate education. In 2020, there were more than 500 long-term and short-term foreign students from 15 countries studying in our school, of which more than 42% were degree students. The school continues to strengthen the introduction of high-level overseas talents and the recruitment of foreign experts. Every year, it sends several groups of teachers to study abroad or participate in academic activities, and continuously improves the internationalization level and teaching and research capabilities of teachers.
