Founded in 1923, Northeastern University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education with a glorious tradition of patriotism, a sound discipline structure, strong academic strength, and distinctive characteristics in technology innovation, transfer, and industry-university-research cooperation. It is one of the first batch of high-level universities in the country's "211 Project" and "985 Project". In September 2017, it was approved by the State Council to enter the ranks of first-class university construction. The Qinhuangdao Branch of Northeastern University is an important part of Northeastern University. It is a full-time general higher education institution formally approved by the Ministry of Education. It trains various types of senior professionals including undergraduates, postgraduates, and doctoral students. Since its establishment in 1987, the school has implemented the open development strategy, talent-strengthening school strategy, and education innovation strategy, undertaken key construction projects such as the "211 Project", "985 Project", and major projects of the National Social Science Fund, actively integrated into the "Double First-Class" construction of Northeastern University, built a diversified talent training mechanism, established a scientific management system and mechanism, promoted the connotation development of the school, and continuously improved the overall level of the school. The school's comprehensive strength and social influence have been significantly improved. It has now become a distinctive university with open, multi-disciplinary coordinated development. In 2017, Northeastern University and the Qinhuangdao Municipal Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement, which kicked off the prelude to the win-win development and co-construction of the Qinhuangdao Branch of Northeastern University and the Qinhuangdao Municipal People's Government.

The school is located in the beautiful coastal city of Qinhuangdao, with Yanshan Mountain in the north and Bohai Sea in the south. The campus is lush with trees and flowers, and the buildings have different architectural styles. The environment is beautiful and fresh, the living facilities are complete, and the cultural atmosphere is strong. At present, the school covers an area of ​​700.68 acres and a building area of ​​348,669.12 square meters. It has a graduate school and 8 colleges, 36 undergraduate majors, covering five major disciplines including economics, literature, science, engineering, and management, and shares all doctoral and master's discipline resources of Northeastern University. In accordance with the talent training idea of ​​"solid foundation, strong major, emphasis on practice, and innovation", the school continues to deepen teaching reforms, build a platform for improving students' comprehensive abilities, focus on strengthening undergraduate education, actively develop graduate education, and establish an education and teaching system that meets the needs of national strategic development and adapts to the needs of economic and social development. There is currently 1 Qinhuangdao branch of the National Key Laboratory (Intelligent Perception and Photoelectric Detection Technology Research Center), 2 "985 Project" laboratories (Direction Finding and Positioning Laboratory, Next Generation Network Technology Laboratory), 1 Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center (Hebei Science Popularization Informatization Engineering Technology Research Center), 2 Provincial Key Laboratories (Hebei Dielectric and Electrolyte Functional Materials Laboratory, Hebei Key Laboratory of Micro-Nano Precision Optical Sensing and Detection Technology), 14 municipal key laboratories, and 1 municipal engineering technology research center. In recent years, it has successively undertaken more than 100 national projects such as major projects of the National Social Science Foundation and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and won 17 provincial and ministerial awards. In the past five years, 1,111 scientific research projects of various types have been established; 3,223 scientific research papers have been published, including 1,125 in the three major retrievals and 619 SCI papers; 438 patents have been authorized and 144 books have been published.

The school continues to improve the quality of talent training, and its social reputation has been improved year by year. By carrying out various characteristic campus cultural activities, the balanced development of students' quality is promoted. Among them, the cloud science information management platform established by the school teachers and students using cloud computing technology and mobile Internet technology integrates the science network resources of Hebei Province and has become a three-dimensional science work base covering the entire province; the "smart party building platform" developed based on the big data analysis and processing platform of cloud computing technology has received attention from the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Organization Department of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee and the Organization Department of the Qinhuangdao Municipal Party Committee.
