Hubei University

Hubei University, located on the shore of Shahu Lake and the Shuibi Qin Garden, is a key comprehensive university in Hubei Province and an excellent university in the undergraduate teaching level assessment of the Ministry of Education.

Hubei University is a provincial key comprehensive university jointly established by the People's Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Education, a "domestic first-class university construction university" in Hubei Province, and a university in the national "basic capacity building project for colleges and universities in central and western China".

1. Historical evolution

In 1931, the predecessor of the school, Hubei Provincial Education College, was born in Baoji Temple, Wuchang. Since then, it has gone through the periods of National Hubei Normal College, Hubei Provincial Education College, Hubei Provincial Teachers' Continuing Education College, Hubei Normal College, Wuhan Normal College and Wuhan Normal College. Over the past 90 years, the school has been built from the ground up, with six changes of campus address and eight changes of school name. The school has passed on the torch and the cultural heritage has not ceased, and the teacher education has a profound foundation. In 1984, Wuhan Normal College was renamed Hubei University, and it began to transform from a single teacher training college into a comprehensive university. In 2013, the People's Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Education jointly established Hubei University.

2. Campus Overview

The school has the main campus in Wuchang, Hankou campus, and Yangluo campus, covering an area of ​​1,500 acres. The school is adjacent to the Yangtze River and close to Shahu Lake. It has lush trees, beautiful environment, strong humanistic atmosphere, and complete teaching and research service facilities.

3. Disciplines and majors

The disciplines and majors are complete. It covers 12 major disciplines except military science and interdisciplinary disciplines, with 23 disciplinary colleges, 83 undergraduate majors, 9 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 6 postdoctoral research stations, 31 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, and 21 master's professional degree authorization categories. Three disciplines, namely materials science, chemistry and engineering, are among the top 1% in the global ESI discipline rankings, three disciplines are selected as the world's best disciplines by U.S. News, five disciplines are selected as world-class disciplines by Soft Science, and the university has three "domestic first-class discipline construction disciplines" in Hubei Province. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, 15 disciplines ranked first among Hubei provincial universities. There are 26 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 6 national characteristic professional construction sites, and 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot project.

IV. Talent training

There are more than 19,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 9,500 doctoral and master's students. Since 2006, the university has launched the "first-class undergraduate education", "graduate education quality improvement plan", "top innovative talent training plan" and the "ten-year talent training plan" for undergraduate, master and doctoral training, exploring the reform of general education and implementing the fundamental task of cultivating morality and cultivating people. A number of national-level industry-education integration bases, basic discipline talent training and scientific research bases, experimental teaching demonstration centers, professional degree graduate joint training demonstration bases, college students' off-campus practical education bases, and college students' cultural quality education bases have been established. A total of 7 national teaching achievement awards, 89 provincial teaching achievement awards, 10 national first-class undergraduate courses, and 44 provincial first-class undergraduate courses have been approved. 4 national new engineering research and practice projects and 288 industry-university cooperation and collaborative education projects of the Ministry of Education have been approved. In recent years, focusing on the major development strategic needs of the country and Hubei, the construction of new engineering, new liberal arts and teacher education have been strengthened, and four new engineering colleges, namely the School of Microelectronics, the School of Cyberspace Security, the School of Artificial Intelligence, and the Institute of New Energy Science and Technology, have been established, and the Teachers College, the Cultural Heritage College and the Tourism College have been established. Since its establishment, a total of more than 300,000 senior professionals of various types have been trained and delivered.

V. Faculty

There are more than 1,500 teachers, including more than 900 full and associate professors, 230 doctoral supervisors, and 926 master supervisors. 362 high-level talents of all levels and types, including 72 national talents and 290 provincial and municipal talents.

VI. Scientific research and social services

There are four national platforms, namely the National Key Laboratory of Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Drug High-throughput Screening Technology, the National Demonstration Base for Innovative Talent Training, and the Energy Capture and Environmental Sensing Green Technology Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Base. As a participating unit, the Hubei Applied Mathematics Center has been established. There is one collaborative innovation center for new organic chemical materials jointly built by the province and the ministry. There are two key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, namely the Green Preparation and Application of Functional Materials and the Synthesis and Application of Organic Functional Molecules, and 41 provincial (Wuhan) key scientific and technological innovation platforms such as the Provincial Key Laboratory, the Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center, and the Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center. There are 12 provincial key research bases in humanities and social sciences, namely the Tourism Development and Management Research Center, the Hubei Morality and Civilization Research Center, and the Hubei Leisure Sports Development Research Center, and two national and regional research centers of the Ministry of Education, namely the Latin American Research Center and the Brazilian Research Center (on record). 2 think tanks were selected as source think tanks of the China Think Tank Index (CTTI), the County Governance Research Institute was selected as a Hubei Reform Think Tank, and the Hubei Cultural Construction Research Institute was selected as one of the top ten new think tanks in the province that the provincial party committee focused on building. In the past five years, the school has won 35 provincial science and technology awards, undertaken 3 national key research and development plans of the Ministry of Science and Technology, major projects of the National Social Science Fund, 11 major research projects of the Ministry of Education's philosophy and social sciences, 8 Ministry of Education's Higher Education Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences), and 5 first prizes for provincial social science outstanding achievements.

VII. Campus Culture

Build a campus of books and focus on educating people with culture. It has won the first prize of the National College Campus Culture Construction Outstanding Achievement Award and the Network Culture Outstanding Achievement Award for many times, and has been named "Top Ten Book-scented Campuses in Hubei Province" for three consecutive times. The university student five-a-side football team has won the national championship 15 times, represented China in the World University Five-a-side Football Championship 5 times and achieved the best results in history. The university student dragon and lion dance troupe has toured abroad 8 times to showcase Chinese traditional culture and won 2 championships in the World Dragon and Lion Dance Championship. In the past three years, students have won championships in major events such as the National College Students' "Challenge Cup" Competition, College Students' Art Exhibition, Mathematical Modeling Competition, Electronic Design Competition, and College Students' English Competition.

VIII. International Exchange

In the 1960s, the school began to recruit international students and can provide Chinese government scholarships, international Chinese teacher scholarships, and Hubei Provincial Government scholarships. The school has established academic exchanges, talent training, and scientific research cooperation with more than 150 universities and scientific research institutions in more than 40 countries and regions. It has established the Hubei University Manchester Joint College in cooperation with Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom, and has established 3 Confucius Institutes (Confucius Classrooms) in Brazil, Sao Tome and Principe, and Poland.

IX. Development Goals

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the school is taking "dual breakthroughs in discipline construction and comprehensive strength" as its development goal, and strives to build a high-level comprehensive university that is well-known in China and has a certain influence internationally.
