Hubei University of Science and Technology is a general undergraduate college in Hubei Province, an "excellent" university in the undergraduate teaching work level assessment of the Ministry of Education, one of the top 100 demonstration universities for industry-education integration in China, one of the first batch of pilot universities for the National Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program, and a pilot university for transformation and development in Hubei Province.
The school is located in Xianning City, Hubei Province. It currently has two campuses, Wenquan and Xianning, with a total campus area of 1,861 acres and a school building area of 630,000 square meters. The school currently has more than 20,000 students of all kinds, including 197 postgraduates and 176 international students; there are more than 1,800 faculty and staff, including 170 senior professional titles, 299 doctors, and more than 120 postgraduate tutors; there are 2 specially appointed academicians, 2 new century outstanding talents of the Ministry of Education, 6 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 14 experts enjoying special allowances from the provincial government, 6 candidates for the Hubei New Century High-level Talent Project, and 2 national outstanding teachers. The total value of the school's teaching equipment is 239 million yuan; the library has a collection of 2.1 million books, 140,000 Chinese and foreign periodicals, and 28 electronic databases. The school has a long history of running schools and a profound cultural heritage. The history of the school can be traced back to the Puqi Simple Normal School founded in 1937 and the Xianning Branch of Hubei Medical College founded in 1965. After inheritance and evolution, Xianning Medical College and Xianning Normal College merged to form Xianning College in 2002, and was renamed Hubei University of Science and Technology in 2012. The school started higher education in 1965, undergraduate education in 1977, joint postgraduate education in 1995, and was approved as a professional degree postgraduate training unit for the "National Special Needs Talent Training Project" in 2011, and independently carried out postgraduate education. Since its establishment, all teachers, students and staff of the school have worked together, sought truth and pragmatism, and worked hard to form a good school spirit, teaching style and learning style, which have been condensed into the school motto of "promoting virtue, erudition, agility and daring to be the first" and the school philosophy of "student-oriented, scholar-oriented, law-based school, and moral education", and the campus cultural atmosphere is strong.

The school's teaching reform is in-depth and the educational results are remarkable. The school currently has 1 national "comprehensive reform pilot" project (Pharmacy), 3 national characteristic professional construction sites (Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, Geographical Science), 6 provincial "comprehensive reform pilot" projects (Electrical Engineering and Automation, Biomedical Engineering, Geographical Science, Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technology, Clinical Medicine, Primary Education), 8 provincial strategic emerging industry professional plan projects, 5 "Jingchu Outstanding Talents" collaborative education plan projects, 18 provincial first-class professional construction sites, 4 provincial undergraduate brand professional construction sites, 32 provincial-level and above quality courses, 9 provincial-level excellent grassroots teaching organizations, 12 provincial-level excellent teaching teams, and passed the Ministry of Education Clinical Medicine Professional Certification. The school has built 1 national experimental training center, 7 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 5 provincial internship training bases, 1 provincial college mental health education demonstration center, 4 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship and practice bases, 1 provincial service outsourcing talent training base, and more than 320 teaching practice bases. The average employment rate of graduates remains above 95%. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, students have won more than 2,100 awards at the provincial and ministerial levels in various disciplines and science and technology competitions, and have won awards in competitions such as "Internet+", "Challenge Cup" and "Chuang Qingchun" for many times.
The school has strong scientific research strength and fruitful scientific research results. The school has built one national and local joint engineering laboratory (National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Material Radiation Modification Technology), one provincial "2011 Plan" (Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center for Non-Power Nuclear Technology), two provincial key laboratories (Hubei Key Laboratory for Diabetic Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases, Hubei Key Laboratory of Radiation Chemistry and Functional Materials), two provincial key research bases for humanities and social sciences (Southern Hubei Cultural Research Center, Rural Education and Cultural Development Research Center), one provincial engineering laboratory (Hubei Engineering Laboratory for Material Radiation Modification), one provincial key industrialization team (Non-Power Nuclear Technology Industrialization Innovation Team), and six application-oriented R&D teams. In the past five years, teachers of the school have undertaken nearly 2,000 teaching and research projects, including 52 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 6 National Social Science Foundation projects, and more than 140 provincial and ministerial projects; and have won more than 120 teaching and scientific research awards at all levels, including 25 provincial and ministerial awards.

The school has 1 academician workstation, 2 provincial graduate workstations, 1 provincial campus science and technology entrepreneurship incubator, more than 50 industry-university-research cooperation bases, and 3 national examination test sites. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school has carried out substantive cooperation with universities in 13 countries including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, New Zealand, South Korea, and Hungary.
For more than 80 years, the school has trained more than 150,000 professionals of various types for the country and society.
