Huazhong Normal University is located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, a crossroads of nine provinces. The school has a long history of running schools. It was founded in 1903 on the basis of the Wenhua Academy University Department (starting from the Wenhua Academy founded in 1871, renamed Huazhong University in 1924), the Zhonghua University founded in 1912, and the Zhongyuan University School of Education founded in 1949. In 1951, the public Huazhong University was established, and in 1952 it was restructured into Huazhong Higher Normal School, and in 1953 it was named Huazhong Normal College. In 1985, it was renamed Huazhong Normal University, and the school name was inscribed by Comrade Deng Xiaoping, one of the founders of Zhongyuan University. In 1993, Comrade Jiang Zemin wrote an inscription for the school's 90th anniversary: ​​"Develop the cause of normal education and improve the quality of national culture." In the development of more than 100 years, the school has inherited the essence of Chinese traditional culture, absorbed the nutrients of foreign culture, and promoted the tradition of revolutionary cultural education, forming the spirit of "loyalty, elegance, simplicity and fortitude" of Huashi, and trained more than 300,000 outstanding talents for the country.

The school has 28 teaching and research units, 79 undergraduate majors for nationwide enrollment, and a higher education system from undergraduate to master, doctoral and postdoctoral, from full-time to adult education. At present, there are more than 31,000 full-time students of various types, including more than 18,500 undergraduates, more than 12,000 postgraduates, and more than 1,100 international students. There are more than 3,500 faculty and staff, 1,905 full-time teachers, including 1,297 professors and associate professors, 352 doctoral supervisors, and 65 national talents such as full-time and part-time academicians, senior professors of humanities and social sciences, overseas high-level talent project candidates, "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" candidates, "National Teaching Master", "Hundred Thousand Talents Project" national candidates, National Outstanding Youth Science Fund winners, National Excellent Youth Science Fund winners.

The school has 2 national "Double First-Class" construction disciplines, 8 national key disciplines, 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, and 22 first-level key disciplines in Hubei Province. There are postdoctoral mobile stations in 18 majors such as Chinese language and literature and physics, 21 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 32 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 128 second-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 172 second-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 1 doctoral professional degree category, and 18 master's professional degree categories.

The school currently has 67 scientific research institutions, laboratories, research institutes (institutes, centers) of various types, including 3 key research bases for humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, 1 key research base for national textbook construction, 1 provincial and ministerial co-construction collaborative innovation center, and 35 other provincial and ministerial key research bases for humanities and social sciences. In addition, the school has 1 national engineering laboratory, 1 national engineering technology research center, 2 national international joint research centers, 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, and 15 other provincial and ministerial key laboratories and key research bases. 26 professional journals are published regularly.

The school strives to embody the modern talent training idea of ​​"thick foundation, broad caliber, high quality, and innovative", combining general education with professional education, and organically combining students' all-round development with individual development. The school currently has two national talent training and scientific research bases for basic disciplines of liberal arts and science (history and physics), 12 national characteristic majors, 17 national first-class undergraduate majors, 26 national first-class undergraduate courses, and 17 Hubei brand majors. It is a national teacher development collaborative innovation experimental base construction university, a university of the Ministry of Education's excellent teacher training program, and a pilot university of the Ministry of Education's informatization. The employment rate is stable at more than 90%, and the school has been selected as one of the top 50 universities with typical graduate employment experience in the country. In 2013, the Ministry of Education conducted an audit and evaluation of the school's undergraduate teaching work, and the school's direction and quality of education were fully affirmed. In 2018, "Reconstruction and Exploration of Talent Training System of Colleges and Universities with Deep Integration of Information Technology" won the special prize of national teaching achievements.

Over the years, the school has formed a "three-extensive" campus culture of "erudition, philanthropy, and liberal arts", with nearly 120 student clubs active in it. The school actively carries out foreign academic, scientific and cultural exchanges, and has established close academic ties with more than 150 universities and scientific research institutions in more than 70 countries and regions such as the United States, Russia, Canada, France, Britain, Australia, Japan, and South Korea. A large number of foreign experts and teachers teach and lecture at the school. The number of teachers who go abroad for training, attend international conferences, and conduct cooperative scientific research continues to rise. We have established four Confucius Institutes with foreign universities, and actively selected Chinese teachers and volunteers to teach Chinese abroad to spread Chinese language and culture. We have vigorously promoted the international two-way flow of students, and selected a large number of students to study abroad every year. The international students who are studying abroad for a short period of time come from more than 140 countries and regions around the world.
