Henan University of Science and Technology (abbreviated as HAUST, English abbreviation: HAUST) is located in Luoyang, the "Millennium Imperial Capital, Peony City", the sub-center city of the Central Plains Urban Agglomeration. It is a university jointly established by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the People's Government of Henan Province, a national demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, a national intellectual property pilot university, a national professional and technical personnel continuing education base, the first batch of higher education scientific and technological achievements transformation and technology transfer bases of the Ministry of Education, and one of the three high-level comprehensive universities built by Henan Province.

The school was founded in Beijing in 1952. In the mid-1950s, it moved to Luoyang in response to the needs of the national industrial base construction layout. In 1958, it was renamed Luoyang Institute of Technology and was affiliated to the Ministry of Machinery Industry. In 1998, it was transferred to the management of Henan Province. In 2002, the Henan Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, in order to optimize the structural layout of higher education in the province, reported to the Ministry of Education for approval and merged Luoyang University of Technology, Luoyang University of Medicine and Luoyang University of Agriculture to form Henan University of Science and Technology. Premier Li Keqiang (then Governor of the People's Government of Henan Province) personally awarded the school plaque to the school and pointed out that "the establishment of Henan University of Science and Technology is a major measure of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government to implement the strategy of 'revitalizing Henan through science and education'... Henan University of Science and Technology should aim to create a high-level university and become a comprehensive university that is advanced in China, at the forefront of universities in the province, and has its own characteristics".

For a long time, the school has been adhering to the school motto of "Mingde Erxue, Daily Innovation and Practice" and the school-running philosophy of "Education-oriented, Academic First", carrying forward the spirit of Henan University of Science and Technology of "Self-improvement and Pursuit of Excellence", highlighting the connotation development, and focusing on improving the quality of talent training and core competitiveness. It has initially built a high-level comprehensive university with outstanding advantages in engineering and coordinated development of disciplines such as agriculture, medicine, and management. It ranks 95th in the 2021 Chinese University Rankings announced by the Airsun China Alumni Association.

The school currently has four campuses, Kaiyuan, Xiyuan, Jinghua, and Zhoushan, covering a total area of ​​4,600 acres and a building area of ​​1.7 million square meters. It covers 11 major disciplines, 100 undergraduate majors, 8 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 3 postdoctoral mobile stations; 41 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, and 24 professional graduate authorization categories.

The school currently has more than 42,000 full-time undergraduates, graduate students, and international students, and 24,000 continuing education students. There are more than 1,200 senior professional and technical personnel such as professors and associate professors, and more than 1,350 teachers with doctoral degrees, including more than 100 dual-appointed academicians, national candidates for the "Million Talents Project", leaders of the Ministry of Education's "Changjiang Scholars and Innovation Team Development Program", chief scientists of the Zhongyuan Scholars and Scientists Studio, Zhongyuan Scholars, Zhongyuan Famous Teachers, provincial specially appointed professors, and provincial academic and technical leaders. There are 11 affiliated hospitals and 7 teaching hospitals. Among them, the First Affiliated Hospital is one of the first batch of top 100 hospitals in China and a national "project construction unit for improving the ability to diagnose and treat difficult and severe diseases".

The school currently has five disciplines, including engineering, materials science, clinical medicine, agricultural science, and botany and zoology, which are among the top 1% in the world of ESI. Three disciplines have become national defense specialty disciplines, and three disciplines have been selected as characteristic backbone disciplines in Henan Province (groups), and 28 provincial first-level key disciplines. It has 15 national and provincial specialty specialty construction sites, 13 professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 39 majors selected as first-class undergraduate majors in the "Double Ten Thousand Plan", and 11 education and training program projects. There are 2 national teaching teams, 7 provincial teaching teams, and 20 provincial science and technology innovation teams.

The school has established the talent training concept of "thick foundation, broad caliber, emphasis on practice, innovation, and strong quality", vigorously carried out innovation and entrepreneurship education practice activities, and achieved excellent results in national science and technology innovation competitions such as the "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the "Challenge Cup" College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, and the "Chuang Qingchun" College Student Entrepreneurship Competition. In the China "Internet +" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, it has won the 17th and 27th place in the national colleges and universities; it has maintained a ranking of 60-80 in the national college student subject competition rankings published by the China Higher Education Society. The school has trained and supplied more than 330,000 senior professionals for the country and society, and has been identified by the national bearing industry as the only university for talent training and technology support, and is known as the "Huangpu Military Academy" of the bearing industry.

The school has 7 national platforms, 83 provincial and ministerial platforms, and 2 provincial colleges and universities humanities and social sciences key research bases. In recent years, the school has achieved a zero breakthrough in the "Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Award"; presided over the "Second National Innovation Award", presided over 3 national science and technology progress second prizes, 16 provincial and ministerial first prizes, and published more than 400 high-level papers in international top journals such as "The Lancet" and "Nature" sub-journals; undertaken more than 70 national major projects, national key R&D plans and other projects, and presided over more than 400 national natural science and social science fund projects approved.

Relying on the discipline, technology and talent advantages formed in heavy equipment, agricultural machinery, bearings, gears, metal materials, automobiles and new energy, agriculture, and medical care, the school helps the research and development of "high-speed rail bearings", "national major engineering equipment", "intelligent agricultural machinery equipment" and other "powerful equipment of a great country", and continuously improves the ability and level of industry-university-research cooperation.

The school is one of the first universities recognized by the Ministry of Education to conditionally accept foreign students. It has carried out cooperation and exchanges with more than 200 high-level universities and research institutions in Russia, the United States, Britain, France, Australia and other countries, and recruits undergraduate and postgraduate students from 20 countries.
