South China University of Technology

South China University of Technology is located in Guangzhou. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. The campus is divided into Wushan Campus, University Town Campus and Guangzhou International Campus. It is the first recipient of the "National Civilized Campus". The school has a long history, which can be traced back to the Guangdong Provincial First Class A Industrial School (historically known as the "Red Class A Industrial School") established in 1918; it was officially established in 1952 during the adjustment period of national colleges and universities, and is one of the "Four Major Engineering Colleges" in New China; it became a national key university in 1960; it was approved by the State Council as the first batch of doctoral and master's degree awarding institutions in 1981; it was the first to set a precedent for joint construction by the ministry and the province in national universities in 1993; it entered the ranks of the "211 Project" in 1995; it entered the ranks of the "985 Project" in 2001; it entered the ranks of Class A universities in the "Double First-Class" construction in 2017, and entered the top 200 of the "Academic Ranking of World Universities" by Shanghai Ranking in 2020.

Today, South China University of Technology has developed into a comprehensive research university with a strong focus on engineering, a combination of science, engineering and medicine, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as management, economics, literature, and law. The overall level of disciplines such as light industry technology and engineering, architecture, food science and engineering, chemical engineering and technology, environmental science and engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, and management science and engineering has entered the top 10% in the country; 11 disciplines have entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking, among which engineering, materials science, chemistry, and agricultural science are among the top 1‰ in the world, reaching the international top level.

Since its establishment, the school has trained 560,000 students of various types of higher education for the country. The employment rate of graduates has been among the top universities in the country and Guangdong Province for many years. A large number of alumni have become backbones of science and technology, famous entrepreneurs and leading cadres in my country. The school is known as the "cradle of engineers" and "cradle of entrepreneurs" and has been selected as a national demonstration base for mass entrepreneurship and innovation.

The school promotes the construction of a first-class university with its strong original scientific research and innovation capabilities. It has built 28 national scientific research platforms and 217 ministerial and provincial scientific research platforms, ranking among the top universities in the country and the first among universities in Guangdong. The number of invention patent applications, invention patent authorizations, and valid invention patents are among the best in the country. Since 2009, the number of Chinese patent awards won by the first patent holder has ranked first among the country's universities.

In 2017, the Guangzhou International Campus was signed and co-built by the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Province, Guangzhou City, and South China University of Technology. This is a new engine for the school's "Double First-Class" construction and another new exploration of the local internationalized school-running model of Chinese higher education. In accordance with the development positioning of "extraordinary and first-class", the campus is rooted in China, integrates China and foreign countries, gathers global innovation elements, and helps the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Education Demonstration Zone. It is committed to building a highland that gathers international high-level teams, cultivates new engineering leaders, conducts in-depth international cooperation, focuses on cutting-edge scientific research, and promotes the transformation of high-end achievements and innovation, creation and entrepreneurship. It is the first to become a world-class demonstration campus with high-level, international, research-oriented, and new engineering characteristics.
