Southwest University

Southwest University is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education, jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Chongqing City. It is one of the first batch of "Double First-Class" universities in the country, and a university under the "211 Project" and "985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform". The current party secretary is Professor Li Xufeng and the president is Professor Zhang Weiguo.

The main body of the school is located in Beibei District, Chongqing, at the foot of Jinyun Mountain and the bank of Jialing River. It covers an area of ​​about 8,295 acres, with a school building area of ​​1.87 million square meters and a green area rate of 40%. The vast campus is magnificent and solemn, with a variety of atmospheres. It is a well-known garden-style school and a civilized campus commended by the Ministry of Education.

The school traces back to the East Sichuan Normal School established in 1906. After several inheritances and evolutions, it was renamed Sichuan Provincial Education College in 1936. In 1950, the Education, Chinese, Foreign Languages, History, Geography, Mathematics and other departments of Sichuan Provincial Education College merged with the National Women's Normal College established in 1940 to establish Southwest Normal College, and the Agronomy, Horticulture and Agricultural Products Manufacturing Departments merged with the Private Xianghui College founded in 1946 to establish Southwest Agricultural College. In 1985, the two schools were renamed Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University respectively. In 2000, Chongqing Light Industry Vocational University was merged into Southwest Normal University; in 2001, Southwest Agricultural University, Sichuan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary College, and the Citrus Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences merged to form the new Southwest Agricultural University. In 2005, Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University merged to form Southwest University, opening a new chapter in the development of the school.

Over the past 100 years, the university has worked hard and achieved success. The school has a complete range of disciplines, strong comprehensiveness and distinctive characteristics, covering 12 disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and art, including 3 national key disciplines, 2 national key (cultivation) disciplines, 29 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 54 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 2 professional doctoral degrees, 27 professional master's degrees, and 27 postdoctoral research mobile stations (workstations).

The school currently has 43 teaching units and 102 undergraduate majors, including 39 national first-class undergraduate major construction points and 81 first-class undergraduate major construction points in Chongqing. The university has rich teaching resources, including 4 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 3 national virtual simulation experimental centers, 13 Chongqing experimental teaching demonstration centers, 23 national first-class undergraduate courses, 167 Chongqing first-class undergraduate courses, and 1 national college student cultural quality education base. There are more than 50,000 students, including nearly 40,000 ordinary undergraduates, more than 14,000 master and doctoral students, and nearly 2,000 international students.

At present, the school has won 1 second prize in the National Natural Science Award, 2 second prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and 1 China Patent Excellence Award. During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, the total amount of scientific research funds of the school reached 3.69 billion yuan, and 7 national key research and development plan projects, 702 national natural science foundation projects, 260 major projects of the National Social Science Foundation and national major cultural projects were approved, 1,524 authorized patents were obtained, 99 new animal and plant varieties were bred, and more than 600 monographs were published. It won 19 awards for outstanding scientific research achievements of ordinary colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education (humanities and social sciences), more than 130 provincial awards such as the Chongqing Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award.

The school focuses on giving full play to its own advantages, serving the national strategy and local economic and social development, and actively carries out school-local cooperation, targeted poverty alleviation and counterpart support. Adhering to the principle of "based in Chongqing, facing the southwest, and serving the whole country", the university has established strategic cooperation relations with 77 cities, counties and districts in Chongqing, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Jiangsu, Shandong and other provinces and cities, established close industry-university-research cooperation relations with 54 large and medium-sized enterprises in China, and carried out effective project cooperation with more than 800 administrative institutions and more than 900 enterprises in 21 provinces and cities, achieving remarkable economic and social benefits.
