Chongqing Jiaotong University

Chongqing Jiaotong University is a multidisciplinary university with distinct transportation characteristics and engineering as its main discipline. In 1951, according to Chairman Mao's instructions, in order to build the Kangzang Highway and the Southwest, the Southwest Military and Political Committee chaired by Deng Xiaoping founded the school, which was then named Southwest Jiaotong College. In 1960, Chongqing Jiaotong College was established. Subsequently, the Civil Engineering Department of Chengdu Institute of Technology, the Metallurgical Department of Sichuan Metallurgical Institute, and the Hydraulic Engineering Department of Wuhan Water Transport Institute were successively incorporated. In 2000, the school was transferred from the Ministry of Transportation to Chongqing Municipality for management and became a university jointly built by the province and the ministry. In 2006, the school was renamed Chongqing Jiaotong University and was added as a doctoral degree awarding institution.

The conditions for running a school are becoming more and more perfect. The school currently has three campuses: Nan'an, Science City, and Daping, covering an area of ​​more than 3,000 acres. The total value of the school's fixed assets is 3.693 billion yuan, and the school building area is more than 820,000 square meters. The total value of various instruments and equipment is 738 million yuan, and there is 1 national and 6 municipal experimental teaching demonstration centers. The library has a collection of 4.276 million volumes, including 2.229 million paper documents and 2.047 million electronic books. More than 1,000 newspapers and periodicals are subscribed annually, and about 50 Chinese and foreign databases such as SCI, EI, Elservier, CNKI, Wanfang, and Weipu have been purchased.

The teaching staff is of excellent quality. The school currently has about 2,200 faculty and staff, including more than 1,500 full-time teachers and about 900 teachers with senior professional titles. The university has more than 160 national talents, such as Changjiang Scholars, "Ten Thousand Talents Program" science and technology innovation leaders, "Hundred Thousand Talents Program" national candidates, young and middle-aged experts who have made outstanding contributions to the country, and provincial and ministerial talents such as Chongqing Talent Program and Chongqing Academic and Technical Leaders. A large number of industry elites, such as Li Yinghong, Wang Guangqian, Zheng Jielian, Du Yanliang, and other academicians of the two academies, Meng Fanchao, a Chinese engineering design master, and Jiang Shuping, a national engineering survey and design master, are employed as the school's distinguished or part-time professors.

The disciplines and majors have distinct characteristics. The school currently has four first-level doctoral degree authorization points in transportation engineering, water conservancy engineering, management science and engineering, and civil engineering, 16 second-level doctoral degree authorization points, three postdoctoral research mobile stations in civil engineering, transportation engineering, and water conservancy engineering, 18 first-level master's degree authorization points in civil engineering, and 13 master's professional degree authorization categories such as civil water conservancy. Chongqing has been approved to have three first-class disciplines, 16 key disciplines, and two "artificial intelligence +" discipline groups in intelligent transportation and smart cities. There are 20 colleges (departments) including the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Hohai University, and the School of Transportation. There are 13 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites and 38 first-class undergraduate professional construction sites in Chongqing. Three national characteristic majors, namely civil engineering, port channel and coastal engineering, and transportation, and seven majors, including water conservancy and hydropower engineering, have been approved as pilot majors of the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education. There are 15 characteristic majors and 7 characteristic discipline professional groups in Chongqing's "Three Special Action Plans". The school is a high-level new engineering construction university in Chongqing.

Education and teaching reforms continue to deepen. The school has improved and perfected the collaborative linkage mechanism of education and teaching, innovated life education, expanded the practice platform, highlighted the "transportation +" training characteristics, created an "innovation and entrepreneurship park", and opened Mao Yisheng class, elite class, excellent engineer class, overseas project management talent class, CIMA class, innovation and entrepreneurship class and other experimental classes. There are more than 30,000 full-time students, including more than 24,000 ordinary undergraduates and more than 6,000 doctoral and master's students. The initial employment rate of undergraduate graduates has exceeded 90% for 24 consecutive years. The school has been selected as the first batch of "National Graduate Employment Typical Experience Universities" and the first batch of "National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Typical Experience Universities". In the past 70 years, the school has trained more than 200,000 talents of all kinds and levels.

The ability of scientific and technological innovation continues to increase. The school has three national key scientific research platforms: the National Key Laboratory of Mountain Bridge and Tunnel Engineering, the National Inland Waterway Regulation Engineering Technology Research Center, and the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Transportation Civil Engineering Materials. There are 41 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, including the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Water Conservancy and Water Transport Engineering, the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for Mountain Bridge Structures and Materials, the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Urban Rail Vehicle System Integration and Control, the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Intelligent Logistics Network, the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Mountain Urban Transportation System and Safety, and the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Green Aviation Energy Power, as well as more than 20 research and development institutions such as the Southwest Water Transport Science Research Institute and the Desert Soil Chemistry Research Institute. A number of influential results have been achieved in the fields of mountain transportation infrastructure, ecological waterways, rail equipment, transportation logistics, green aviation, etc. The school has won 14 National Science and Technology Progress Awards and National Invention Awards, and 485 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. Core academic journals such as Applied Mathematics and Mechanics and Journal of Chongqing Jiaotong University (Natural Science Edition, Social Science Edition) are publicly issued.

International exchanges and cooperation are fruitful. The school attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchanges, and has established friendly cooperative relations with nearly 100 universities and research institutes in more than 30 countries. It initiated the establishment of the "Belt and Road" China (China) Poland (Land) University Alliance and has been serving as the rotating chairman. The school has opened two Confucius Institutes in Benin and the United States in Africa, and has two country and regional research centers registered with the Ministry of Education, the European Research Center and the Benin Research Center. The school is a commissioned training institution for the Chinese Government Scholarship and the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship. The number of international students in China is about 600 people/year. International students have won gold and silver in the "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Language Competition for International Students in China jointly organized by CCTV and Hanban. It has successively cooperated with universities in the United Kingdom and Australia and other countries to hold 6 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects, and cooperated with universities and institutions in Thailand, Sri Lanka and Benin and other countries to hold 3 overseas education projects.

Party building leads and guarantees the promotion of career development.
