Chongqing Second Normal University is a multi-disciplinary local general undergraduate normal university with a focus on liberal arts. It was founded in 1954 and has gone through three periods: Chongqing Secondary School Teachers' Amateur Training School, Chongqing Teachers' Training College, and Chongqing Education College. In March 2012, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was rebuilt into Chongqing Second Normal University on the basis of Chongqing Education College.

In recent years, the school has always adhered to the mission of serving the economic and social development of Chongqing, vigorously implemented the transformation and development strategy, refined and optimized normal education, and made non-normal education special and strong, actively cultivated the school-running characteristics of "serving the growth of children aged 0~12", and worked hard to promote the integrated development of normal and non-normal education, forming a development orientation for basic education and Chongqing's strategic emerging service industry. After unremitting efforts, the school cooperated with the Planning and Construction Center of the Ministry of Education to establish the first "Children's Research Institute" in the country. It is one of the 100 applied undergraduate universities in the "13th Five-Year Plan" Industry-Education Integration Development Project Planning Project, the first batch of pilot colleges and universities in the "Cloud-Number Integration Science and Education Innovation" project of the Ministry of Education, a member unit of the National Alliance of Applied Technology Universities, the first batch of transformation pilot universities in Chongqing, the National Teacher Development Collaborative Innovation Experimental Base, the National College Student Cultural Quality Education Base, the Chongqing Teacher Education Innovation Experimental Zone, the Chongqing Primary and Secondary School Teacher Development Center, the Chongqing Civilized Unit, the first batch of civilized campuses in Chongqing, and the advanced school for creating a national civilized campus.

The school currently has two campuses, Xuefu Avenue and Nanshan, covering an area of ​​742,300 square meters, a building area of ​​392,800 square meters, and a total value of 109 million yuan for teaching instruments and equipment. There are 94 experimental training rooms under the jurisdiction of 9 experimental training centers. As of the end of 2020, it has a total of 1.9835 million books and various digital resources to support the school's teaching and scientific research.

The school has always adhered to serving the local area and continuously optimized the layout of disciplines and majors. The school is laid out around the five key industrial service fields of Chongqing, including education, information, commerce, culture, and health. There are currently 37 undergraduate majors, involving disciplines such as education, literature, science, engineering, management, economics, and art. Focusing on the three major areas of educational services, health services, and business services, a characteristic professional cluster of "serving the growth of children aged 0~12" is constructed to vigorously promote the mutual integration of normal and non-normal education and the coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It has been approved as one first-level key discipline in Chongqing and two key cultivation disciplines in Chongqing; three national first-class undergraduate professional construction project sites and four first-class professional construction projects in Chongqing; one characteristic discipline and professional group in Chongqing and six undergraduate characteristic majors in Chongqing.

The school has always adhered to the quality of the school and continuously improved the quality of talent training. The school has firmly grasped the lifeline of talent training quality, continuously deepened the reform of the high-quality application-oriented talent training model, and constructed a "one center, two integrations, and two collaborations" talent training model centered on students, adhering to the integration of normal and non-normal education, the integration of teaching and scientific research, the collaboration of schools, governments, and enterprises, and the collaboration of one, two, and three classrooms. It has successively built one national-level high-quality resource sharing course, 12 municipal-level high-quality video open courses, and 8 municipal-level first-class undergraduate courses. It has won one second prize for national teaching achievements in basic education; and won 8 awards for higher education teaching achievements in Chongqing, including one first prize. In the past five years, students have won 1,755 national and municipal awards, including 684 national awards, and the employment rate of graduates has remained stable at around 90%, which is higher than the average level of undergraduates in Chongqing.

The school has always insisted on strengthening the school with talents, and the construction of the teaching staff has achieved remarkable results. Since the reconstruction, the school has strengthened the construction of the teaching staff by introducing and training, and has basically formed a teaching staff with excellent overall quality, reasonable structure and good development trend. The school has always adhered to the principle of developing the school through scientific research, and its ability to serve the society has been continuously improved. Relying on its own school resources and social development needs, it takes the construction of characteristic disciplines and professional groups in pedagogy as a starting point, integrates talent training, scientific research, and social services, and focuses on "serving the growth of children aged 0~12" to enhance the school's social contribution and influence. The Ministry of Education approved the construction of the "National Teacher Development Collaborative Innovation Experimental Base", and cooperated with the School Planning, Construction and Development Center of the Ministry of Education to build the first interdisciplinary and cross-field comprehensive scientific research platform for children's growth in the country-Children's Research Institute, and built the Chongqing Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Base "Chongqing Urban and Rural Teacher Education Research Center" and Chongqing Teacher Education Innovation Experimental Zone, and built a number of research and development platforms such as the Chongqing Municipal Government, Municipal Education Commission, Municipal Development and Reform Commission and Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. In the past five years, the school teachers have presided over 11 national self-study, social science fund, and national education science planning projects, 475 provincial (ministerial) scientific research projects; published 104 monographs, compilations, and translations, and published 1,924 academic papers; won 2 Chongqing Science and Technology Progress Awards and 2 Chongqing Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards. There are 7 Chongqing Science and Technology Innovation Teams.

The school has always adhered to open education, and the situation of cooperative education has been deeply expanded. With the promotion of industry-education integration as the driving force, the school actively builds a school-running model that closely integrates industry, academia and research by co-cultivating talents, co-building platforms, sharing tasks and sharing results. It has successively built ZTE College and Dawn Big Data College, and carried out school-enterprise cooperation projects with Phoenix Media, ZTE, Dongfang Yuxin and other companies. It has carried out exchanges and cooperation with more than 80 colleges and universities and educational institutions outside the country, built an international college, and introduced educational resources from the United States, the United Kingdom and Spain to carry out cooperative education. It has jointly carried out talent training, scientific research and production services with 313 local governments, industry institutions and enterprises.

Over the past 67 years, the school has formed the school motto of "perseverance and perfection" and the school spirit of "bearing the burden, self-reliance, innovation and truth-seeking", and cultivated the excellent teaching style and learning style of "upright virtue, benevolence and good teaching" and "diligent learning, good thinking, clear judgment and firm practice". Facing the new era, the school will implement the fundamental task of cultivating morality and educating people in accordance with the requirements of the central government's "five-in-one" overall layout and the "four comprehensive" strategic layout, closely focus on General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on Chongqing's "two points" positioning, "two places" and "two highs" goals, play the "three roles" and create a good political ecology. We will comprehensively deepen comprehensive reforms, accelerate the modernization of the school's governance system and governance capabilities, increase efforts to build high-level undergraduate education, actively integrate into the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle, and strive to build the school into a distinctive, high-level, applied general undergraduate normal college with status in Chongqing, influence in the west, and personality in the country.
