The French Academy of Sciences is one of the five colleges under the French Society. Its predecessor was the Society founded by J.B. Colbert in 1666. In 1699, it was reorganized under the sponsorship of the French royal family and moved to the Louvre under its current name. In the first half of the 17th century, a free group consisting of five people, including Descartes, gathered at the home of Merseny as its foundation, which was later renamed the Royal Academy of Sciences in Paris by Colbert. During the French Revolution, it was banned in 1793 and taken over by a branch of the newly established National Research Institute in 1795. In 1816, its original name was restored, and after the addition of the School of Ethics and Political Science in 1832, it became one of the five colleges of the French Society today
