Since 1987, David Zinn has been creating original art works in and around Ann Arbor, Michigan. For over twenty years, he has provided freelance work for various business clients while secretly bringing "meaningless" art into the entire world.
His professional commissioned works include theatrical posters, commercial signs, educational cartoons, landfill murals, environmental superheroes, corporate fables, and hand drawn dump trucks. At the same time, he also utilizes bar coasters, restaurant placemats, cake frosting, and snow to unleash his personal creativity.
Now, thanks to the temptation of a box of sidewalk chalk on a sunny day, Mr. Zien is famous for the art he created under his feet. David's temporary street paintings are entirely composed of chalk, charcoal, and discovered objects, and are always improvised on site through a process of almost unknown 'brief imaginative transformations'.
Most of his works appear on sidewalks in Michigan, but there are also many that appear on distant California beaches, Swedish village squares, and Taiwanese streets. He gained global recognition and millions of followers by sharing his work on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, CBS Mornings, and BBC News. His TEDx speech (Avoiding Blank Canvas: Street Art and Mickey Mouse) has been viewed over 42000 times on YouTube.
