Hanjiang Normal University is a full-time provincial general college run by the state. Its predecessor was the Hubei Yunyang Prefecture Normal School founded in 1904, and its cultural heritage can be traced back to the Yunshan Academy during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. The school was founded in 1954, and college classes were opened in 1975. In 1977, it became the Yunyang Branch of Central China Normal University. In December 1978, it was approved by the State Council to establish Yunyang Normal College. In 1993, it was renamed Yunyang Normal College with the approval of the former State Education Commission.
