Changchun Institute of Technology is a provincial general undergraduate university with engineering as its main discipline, coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as management, science, art, and literature, and a profound background in basic industrial industries such as architecture, water conservancy, electricity, and geology, as well as distinctive school-running characteristics.

With profound foundation and steady progress. The school's history can be traced back to the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China. From 1951 to 1953, Changchun Civil Engineering and Architecture Senior Vocational School, Changchun Surveying and Geological Technology School and Changchun Hydropower Engineering School were established successively. After fifty years, the three schools have changed their names several times, and their affiliations and school levels have changed many times. They are mainly managed by the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power and China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation. In the 1960s, Changchun Hydropower Engineering School was upgraded and renamed Jilin Water Resources and Hydropower College to offer undergraduate education. In 1997, all three schools became national demonstration key construction schools for higher engineering colleges. In March 2000, the three schools merged to form Changchun Engineering College.

The two districts have rich resources. The school currently has two campuses, Hudong and Huxi, covering a total area of ​​458,000 square meters, with a total building area of ​​463,000 square meters.
