Jinzhou Medical University

Jinzhou Medical University was founded during the War of Liberation. The predecessor of the school was the Liaoji Military Region Health School established in Taonan City, Jilin Province in 1946. In 1949, it moved to Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. In 1958, Jinzhou Medical College was established and renamed Liaoning Medical College in 2006. In 2007, it passed the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education with excellent results. In March 2016, it was officially renamed Jinzhou Medical University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. After 76 years of development, it has become a provincial general higher education institution with medicine as the main subject, multiple categories, multiple levels and multiple forms of education.

The total area of ​​the campus is 994987.60㎡. There are three types of schools: general higher education, adult education and international education; six disciplines: medicine, engineering, agriculture, science, management and education; and 27 undergraduate majors. The school became a master's degree-granting institution in 1984, and obtained the qualification to apply for master's degree-granting authority for people with equivalent academic qualifications in 1999. It currently has 8 first-level master's degree-granting disciplines, 58 second-level master's degree-granting disciplines, and 5 master's professional degree-granting disciplines. In 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it jointly trained doctoral students with China Medical University. It now jointly runs doctoral programs with Jinan University, Soochow University and Dalian Medical University, and employs 21 doctoral supervisors in clinical medicine.

The school has 2 national high-level talents, 1 winner of the National Teaching Master Award, 3 members of the Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, 1 national candidate of the New Century Hundred Thousand Talents Project, 23 winners of the State Council Special Allowance, 3 outstanding experts of Liaoning Province, 4 selected candidates of the "Liaoning Higher Education Climbing Scholars Support Program", and 12 winners of the Liaoning Provincial Teaching Master Award.

The school has always adhered to the central position of teaching work, taking moral education as the foundation, continuously deepening teaching reform, strengthening teaching management, improving the quality of talent training, and achieving fruitful teaching results. The school currently has 2 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 1 national characteristic major, 1 national comprehensive reform pilot major, 5 provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 3 provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors, 1 provincial engineering talent training model reform pilot major, 1 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education reform pilot major, 3 provincial demonstration majors, and 5 provincial characteristic (brand) majors. There are 14 provincial quality courses, 7 provincial quality resource sharing and video open courses, and 6 provincial teaching teams. There are 8 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 5 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching demonstration centers, 6 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching projects, and 12 provincial college student practice education bases.

In line with the development trend of international medical education, the school took the lead in carrying out the "organ system-centered" medical course model reform in China in 1991, breaking the traditional "discipline-centered" course model, providing a successful example for the reform of higher medical education in my country, and creating a situation where multiple course models coexist in higher medical education in my country. It has been highly valued by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, and has been approved by the Ministry of Education as a "21st Century Higher Medical Education Teaching Content and Course Model Reform Plan Project". This reform won two second prizes for national teaching achievements and two first prizes for Liaoning Province teaching achievements.

The school's scientific research work started early. In the 1970s and 1980s, the project "Research on the Causes and Prevention of Rice Field Dermatitis" undertaken by the school won the Major Contribution Award at the National Science Conference; it made breakthrough progress in the etiology and pathology of "endemic nail disease" and "endemic disease", and obtained the second-level scientific and technological achievements of the Ministry of Health, making important contributions to the prevention and control of endemic diseases in my country. The school became the national "endemic nail disease" and "endemic disease" research center; "Research on magnetic resin root canal filling materials and technologies" won the third prize of the National Science and Technology Invention Award, filling the domestic gap at that time. Since the reform and opening up, the school has embarked on a medical and technological development path of integration of industry, academia and research, and successfully incubated a high-tech biopharmaceutical company-Jinzhou Aohong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., becoming a model of integration of industry, academia and research in the field of higher medicine in the country. The school has been approved to build 2 major scientific and technological platforms of Liaoning Province's higher education institutions, 13 key laboratories of Liaoning Province, 1 engineering research center of Liaoning Province, 2 professional and technical innovation centers of Liaoning Province, and 2 clinical medicine research centers of Liaoning Province. Basic medical disciplines have been selected as disciplines for the construction of first-class disciplines in Liaoning Province's higher education institutions. The school sponsors two journals, "Journal of Jinzhou Medical University" and "Journal of Jinzhou Medical University" (Social Science Edition).

The school currently has 12,509 full-time students, including 8,832 undergraduates. The school recruits students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country. In 2021, the ranking of students continued to improve. The number of students in the five-year key medical majors of clinical medicine, stomatology, medical imaging, and anesthesiology in the province ranked in the top 24% of the province; the scores of 5 provinces and cities for admission to the first-class control line were higher than the first-class control line, and the scores of 11 provinces and cities for admission to the first-class control line were more than 100 points higher than the control line. The school began to recruit international students in 1997. In 2012, it was approved by the Ministry of Education as a "qualified institution for full-English teaching of clinical medicine for international students in China". In 2014, it was officially listed by the Ministry of Education as a "higher education institution for Chinese government scholarship international students in China". In 2015, it was approved by the Ministry of Education as a "qualified institution for recruiting students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan". The school actively connects with the national "Belt and Road" strategy. The total number of source countries has reached 68, and the number of international students on campus has reached 851. In 2020, the proportion of international students released by Soft Science ranked eighth in the country, and the level of international education remains at the forefront of universities in the province.

The school currently has 94 teaching and practice bases for various majors, including 3 directly affiliated hospitals and 5 non-directly affiliated hospitals. The First Affiliated Hospital is the largest Class-A tertiary general hospital in western Liaoning, one of the three major regional medical centers in Liaoning Province, a national standardized training base for resident doctors, and a national coronary heart disease intervention training base; the Second Affiliated Hospital is a national standardized training base for resident doctors (general stomatology), a clinical practice base for stomatological professional nurse training of the Chinese Stomatological Association, a clinical skills training center for stomatology in Liaoning Province, a popular science base for oral health education in Liaoning Province, and an oral disease diagnosis and treatment center in western Liaoning. It was awarded the "Healthy Oral Promotion Base" and "Clinical Skills Training Base" by the China Dental Disease Prevention and Control Foundation. The Third Affiliated Hospital is a Class-A tertiary hospital, the Liaoning Provincial Workers' Work Injury Rehabilitation Center, the Liaoning Provincial Diabetes Prevention and Control Liaoxi Branch Center, and the Liaoning Provincial Diabetic Eye Disease Prevention and Control Liaoxi Branch Center. In 2020, it obtained the first Internet hospital license in Jinzhou, and actively carried out "Internet + Medical Health" and "5G" applications to provide high-quality medical diagnosis and treatment for the people. The three directly affiliated hospitals have trained 8 "Liaoning Famous Doctors", 11 "Liaoning Young Famous Doctors", and 1 "Liaoning Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner" and "Liaoning Young Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner", providing strong support for Jinzhou to build a central city in the western Liaoning region.

In the process of fighting against the COVID-19 epidemic, more than 140 medical teams of Jinzhou Medical University, composed of the First and Third Affiliated Hospitals, rushed to Wuhan, Dalian, and Jinzhou COVID-19 treatment centers, especially the 111 medical team members fighting in Wuhan Leishenshan Hospital.
