Dalian University of Foreign Languages ​​is located in Dalian, Liaoning Province. It is a provincial university in Liaoning Province and the only public foreign language university in Northeast China. The school was established in 1964 under the kind care of Premier Zhou Enlai. It was named Dalian Japanese Language College at that time. In 1970, it was renamed Liaoning Foreign Language College. In 1974, it started undergraduate education. In 1978, it was renamed Dalian Institute of Foreign Languages. In 2013, it was renamed Dalian University of Foreign Languages. At present, it has developed into a multi-disciplinary foreign language university with foreign languages ​​as its main teaching and internationalization as its characteristics, and has literature, economics, management, engineering, law, art and other disciplines. In 2016, it was selected as a "key university for the construction of first-class universities in Liaoning Province", and the discipline of foreign languages ​​and literature was selected as a "first-class discipline" for key construction in Liaoning Province. It ranked 10th in the "2020 Soft Science China Best Discipline Ranking", and ranked in the top 5% of the country in the percentile.

The school has two campuses, Lushun Campus and Zhongshan Campus, with a total area of ​​1.2615 million square meters and a building area of ​​473,100 square meters. The library has nearly 2 million paper books, more than 700 kinds of paper newspapers and periodicals, and more than 900,000 electronic books.

The school has 20 teaching units, with a doctoral training program for "High-end Talents in Northeast Asian Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs" to serve the special needs of the country.
