Liaoning Petrochemical University

Liaoning Shihua University is the first petroleum industry school in New China. It was founded in Dalian in 1950, moved to Fushun in 1953, and upgraded to Fushun Petroleum College in 1958. In February 2000, it was transferred from China Petrochemical Corporation to the leadership of Liaoning Provincial People's Government. In February 2002, it was renamed Liaoning Shihua University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In March 2010, Liaoning Provincial People's Government, PetroChina, Sinopec, and CNOOC signed a co-construction agreement.

In the 71 years since its establishment, the school has developed into a multidisciplinary university with petroleum and petrochemical as its characteristics, and coordinated development of eight major disciplines including engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, education, and art. In 2007, the school received an evaluation of the undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education and received excellent results. The school is a basic training base for high-level talents of ethnic minorities and a training base for ethnic minority undergraduate preparatory students determined by the Ministry of Education. It is also a training base for undergraduate talents in short supply in the petrochemical industry in Liaoning Province. At present, more than 130,000 graduates have been trained, most of whom have become management and technical backbones in the national petroleum and petrochemical industry.

The school adheres to the connotation-oriented development path with quality improvement as the core, establishes the central position of talent training, continuously optimizes the discipline and professional structure and the teaching staff, and greatly improves the school's operating conditions, which effectively improves the school's operating level and comprehensive strength. The school covers an area of ​​1,890 acres, with a total construction area of ​​840,000 square meters. The total library book resources are 2.519 million volumes and 46 electronic document databases. The school has 20 colleges and more than 18,000 full-time students. The school is a first-class discipline (Class A) construction university in Liaoning Province, with 2 joint training doctoral programs, 14 first-level discipline master programs, 47 second-level discipline master programs, and 10 master's professional degree authorization categories in materials and chemical engineering, resources and environment, energy and power, electronic information, machinery, business administration (MBA), public administration (MPA), accounting (MPAcc), translation (MTI) and art (MFA). The engineering discipline ranks in the top 1% of ESI worldwide. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, five disciplines ranked in the top 70%, among which the chemical engineering and technology discipline and the control science and engineering discipline ranked first among the universities in Liaoning Province.

The school currently has 58 undergraduate majors, 9 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 4 featured majors, 6 pilot majors of the Ministry of Education's Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program (including 1 master's field), 1 comprehensive reform pilot major, and 5 majors that have passed the China Engineering Education Certification; there are 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, 2 engineering practice education centers, and 2 virtual simulation experimental teaching projects; there are 22 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 1 advantageous and featured major, 5 innovative and entrepreneurial education reform pilot majors, 11 application-oriented transformation pilot majors, 5 application-oriented transformation demonstration majors, 2 comprehensive reform pilot majors, 7 engineering talent training model reform pilot majors, 2 key support majors, 5 demonstration majors, and 2 featured majors; 29 provincial experimental teaching, practical training and other centers and bases, 9 resource sharing courses, 2 video open courses, and 2 bilingual teaching demonstration courses have been approved. Since 2013, the school has won 42 provincial and above teaching achievement awards and 8 provincial excellent textbooks. Students' innovation and entrepreneurship activities are widely carried out. In the past three years, students have won 702 national awards and 1,439 provincial and ministerial awards in subject competitions and scientific and technological innovation activities. It has been identified by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League as a college student KAB entrepreneurship education base and a KAB entrepreneurship club university.

The school has a high-level faculty team with more than 1,500 faculty and staff, 484 teachers with senior professional titles, and 434 doctoral and master's tutors. The school has continuously improved its scientific research level and has been approved for key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, major research plan projects, National Social Science Fund and projects of the Ministry of Education. The school has focused on strengthening the construction of scientific and technological innovation platforms, and has built 1 national and local joint engineering laboratory, 29 provincial key laboratories, collaborative innovation centers, and professional and technical innovation centers, 3 provincial and ministerial key research bases for humanities and social sciences, 1 provincial technology transfer demonstration center, and 1 provincial scientific and technological achievement transformation and technology transfer base. 7 scientific research platforms have been identified as the first batch of major scientific and technological platforms opened by universities in Liaoning Province. A petrochemical industry chain training base has been built, and the petrochemical intelligent manufacturing teaching practice innovation center with an investment of 100 million yuan has been approved as a central budget investment plan support project for the 2021 Education Power Promotion Project. A joint petrochemical laboratory has been established with Sinopec Fushun Petrochemical Research Institute and China Global Engineering Corporation Liaoning Branch; a new R&D institution, Liaoning Petrochemical Industry Technology Innovation Research Institute, has been jointly established with Fushun Municipal People's Government and Sinopec Fushun Petrochemical Research Institute, and Liaoning Hongshun Petrochemical Industry Technology Innovation Development Co., Ltd. has been registered and established. The school has established industry-university-research cooperation with more than 100 high-tech enterprises, and has signed agreements with more than 50 enterprises and research institutes, forming a group of joint training and internship practice bases for graduate students, including 5 demonstration bases for joint training of professional degree graduate students in Liaoning Province and 1 Liaoning Provincial Graduate Innovation and Academic Exchange Center.

The school actively participates in the construction of Liaoning's "One Belt and Five Bases", "Five Regional Development Strategies", and Rural Revitalization Strategy. It has successively selected 325 professors and doctors to carry out scientific and technological services in 218 enterprises and institutions across the province, provided more than 600 technical consultations for enterprises, trained more than 1,000 personnel of various types, solved more than 300 technical problems, and broke through one national "stuck neck" technology. Five achievements were recognized by the Provincial Department of Education as major landmark achievements of the province's first-class disciplines in 2019. The school vigorously implements the open school strategy and actively expands foreign exchanges and cooperation. It has established long-term cooperative relations with 49 colleges and universities and research institutes in 17 countries including the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, Finland, South Korea, and Japan; jointly carried out undergraduate "2+2, 1+2+1, 2+1+1" and other training programs with world-renowned universities such as the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom; carried out "4+1" postgraduate training programs with the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom; undergraduate education programs in chemical engineering and technology, electrical engineering and automation were approved by the Ministry of Education as Sino-foreign cooperative education projects; the school is the receiving unit for Chinese government scholarship students from the Ministry of Education.
