Yanbian University

Yanbian University is located in Yanji, the capital of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province, which enjoys the reputation of "Hometown of Education". It is a national "Double First-Class" construction university, a national "211 Project" key construction university, a key construction university for western development, a university jointly supported by the People's Government of Jilin Province and the Ministry of Education, and a university jointly supported by the People's Government of Jilin Province and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission.

The school was founded in 1949 and is one of the earliest universities established by the Communist Party of China in ethnic minority areas. It currently has 22 colleges, 76 undergraduate majors; 10 first-level doctoral degree-granting disciplines; 32 first-level master's degree-granting disciplines; 19 professional master's degree-granting points, 4 postdoctoral research mobile stations, and 1 postdoctoral research workstation. In 2017, the discipline of foreign languages ​​and literature was selected as a national "double first-class" construction discipline. In addition, the school has 1 national key discipline, 15 Jilin Province characteristic high-level disciplines, and 15 Yanbian University key disciplines.

The school currently has 2,225 faculty and staff, including 1,377 full-time teachers, 773 of whom have doctoral degrees, 532 have master's degrees, and 739 have associate senior titles or above. More than 100 well-known domestic and foreign experts, including Academician Jin Ningyi and Chen Fener, have been hired as high-end talents, honorary professors, part-time professors and visiting professors of our school. The "Tumen River Scholars Support Plan" has been launched to strengthen the construction of a high-level talent team and cultivate and introduce a group of discipline leaders and young academic backbones with great development potential.

The school recruits students from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country. It currently has 27,100 full-time students (including 5,581 doctoral and master's students, 19,477 undergraduates and 2,042 junior college students), and 127 international students from 17 countries. It currently has 44 provincial and ministerial scientific research institutions, including the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for Technological Innovation of Beef Cattle in the Cold Regions of Northeast China and the Ministry of Education's Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences - North Korea and South Korea Research Center, and is actively building two international academic forum brands, the Tumen River Forum and the Changbai Mountain Forum. In the past three years, the school has undertaken 172 national and ministerial projects, including major projects of the National Social Science Fund, key projects of the National Social Science Fund, national key R&D plan projects, sub-projects of key R&D projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Natural Science Fund projects, National Social Science Fund projects, National Art Fund, Ministry of Education projects, and National Ethnic Affairs Commission ethnic research projects; 344 provincial and departmental projects, 21 international cooperation projects; published 5,168 academic papers, including 1,318 papers in the three major international scientific and technological literature retrieval papers (SCI, EI, ISTP), and 268 papers in SSCI, A&HCI, and CSSCI journals; won 38 scientific research awards at or above the provincial level, and obtained 123 patents.

The school adheres to the internationalization strategy and has established cooperation and exchange relations with 277 colleges and universities, scientific research institutions or international academic organizations in 29 countries and 2 regions (Hong Kong and Taiwan). Steadily develop education for international students and obtain the qualification to receive "Chinese Government Scholarship International Students" from the Ministry of Education. Strengthen the construction of "Yanbian University Chinese and Foreign Language and Cultural Exchange and Cooperation Center", and successively establish inter-school relations with world-renowned universities such as Far Eastern Federal University in Russia, Meiji University in Japan, Seoul University in South Korea, Kim Il Sung University in North Korea, Stockholm University in Sweden, and University of Pittsburgh in the United States, with nearly a thousand experts and scholars exchanging visits every year.

The campus covers an area of ​​1.96 million square meters, and the building area of ​​the school is 920,000 square meters. The library has more than 2.1 million paper books of various types. The beautiful campus, excellent school conditions, complete infrastructure, advanced teaching buildings, laboratory buildings, clean student dormitories, canteens, multi-functional gymnasiums and activity centers meet the needs of teaching, scientific research and student growth and development.

In the 73 years since its establishment, the school has always adhered to the leadership of the Party and firmly adhered to the socialist direction of running schools. Under the glorious illumination of the Party's ethnic policy, it has always received the cordial care of the Party and the country. Premier Zhou Enlai, Chairman Zhu De, Acting Chairman Dong Biwu and other leaders of the older generation, as well as party and state leaders such as Hu Yaobang, Jiang Zemin, Jia Qinglin, Zhang Dejiang, and Yu Zhengsheng, have visited the school to inspect its work and write inscriptions, pointing out the direction for the school's development.
