Located in the ancient capital of Jinling, which is rich in natural beauty and has a long history and a good reputation, Nanjing University is a century-old prestigious university. Its predecessor was the Sanjiang Normal School founded in 1902. After that, it went through the Liangjiang Normal School, Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeast University, National Fourth Sun Yat-sen University, National Central University, National Nanjing University and other historical periods. In 1950, it was renamed Nanjing University. In 1952, during the adjustment of colleges and departments of colleges and universities across the country, Nanjing University adjusted out some colleges and departments such as engineering, agriculture, and normal education, and merged with the liberal arts and science colleges of Jinling University founded in 1888, and it was still named Nanjing University. The school site was moved from Sipailou to the original site of Jinling University in Gulou.

Among them, the Nanjing University-Hopkins University Sino-US Cultural Research Center, which was founded in the 1980s, has been successfully held for more than 30 years.
