China University of Metrology

China University of Metrology is a higher education institution with metrology, standards, quality, market supervision and inspection and quarantine as its characteristics. The predecessor of the school was Hangzhou Metrology School founded by the State Administration of Metrology in 1978. It was upgraded to China Institute of Metrology in 1985 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2016, it was renamed China University of Metrology. In 2019, it became a university jointly built by Zhejiang Province and the State Administration for Market Regulation and a key university in Zhejiang Province. In 2021, after review by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the school was successfully approved as a doctoral degree-granting institution.

The school has 2 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 15 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, and 11 master's professional degree authorization points; 1 first-class discipline jointly built by the province and the city, and 10 first-class disciplines in Zhejiang Province. There are 3 disciplines ranked in the top 1% of ESI in the world. There are 9 national first-class majors, 4 national characteristic majors, and 1 national comprehensive reform pilot major; 19 provincial first-class majors, 7 provincial advantageous majors, 12 provincial characteristic majors, and 5 majors of the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program"; 6 national first-class courses, 7 national quality courses, national quality resource sharing courses, national bilingual teaching demonstration courses, etc., 79 Zhejiang first-class courses, and 22 provincial quality courses; 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and 10 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers; 1 national talent training model innovation experimental zone, and 1 national demonstration engineering professional degree graduate joint training base.

The school has 19 colleges (departments, centers), with more than 16,000 full-time undergraduates and more than 3,600 graduate students. There are more than 1,500 full-time teachers, including more than 700 teachers with senior professional titles and nearly 70% of teachers with doctoral degrees. There are 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, more than 20 national talents such as the National "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" and Yangtze River Scholars, and more than 60 provincial and ministerial talents such as Zhejiang Provincial Special Experts and Zhejiang Provincial "Ten Thousand Talents Plan". There is 1 Huang Danian-style teacher team in national universities and 1 national teaching team; 1 Huang Danian-style teacher team in Zhejiang universities and 5 teaching teams in Zhejiang universities. Won 22 national and provincial teaching achievement awards. Won the world's first and only "Standardized Higher Education Award".

The school currently has nearly 40 scientific research platforms at the provincial and ministerial level and above, including the National Quality Inspection Center, the State Administration for Market Regulation Key Laboratory, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory, the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education, the Zhejiang International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Zhejiang Key Laboratory, the Zhejiang Engineering Laboratory (Engineering Research Center), the Zhejiang New (University) Think Tank, the Zhejiang 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center, and 35 high-level research institutes; as a major unit, it participates in the cultivation and construction of the national major scientific and technological infrastructure of "Ultra-High Sensitivity Extremely Weak Magnetic Field and Inertial Measurement Device". It has won 3 second prizes in national science and technology and more than 100 provincial and ministerial awards. It has 1 national university science and technology park, 2 local parks, and has incubated 474 enterprises, including 21 national high-tech enterprises and 3 national science and technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises.

The school was selected as one of the "Top 50 Universities with Typical Experience in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in China", "Zhejiang Province's Demonstration Entrepreneurship College for General Colleges and Universities", and "National Intellectual Property Pilot University". In the past five years, the implementation rate of undergraduate graduates has been ranked among the top five key universities in the province. In 2021, it ranked fifth in the evaluation of provincial university subject competitions, and the mathematical modeling competition has been ranked among the top in the country and first in Zhejiang for many years. Won the first prize for outstanding achievements in campus culture construction in national universities; the original large-scale music and dance epic "Thousands of Years of Measurement" won the Ministry of Education's "Respect for China's Excellent Traditional Culture" feature display project, and will be performed at the Beijing Conference Center in 2021. It has established high-level industry talent training bases such as the National Demonstration Base for Innovative Talent Training, the National Metrology Rule of Law Research Base, the ISO International Standardization Training Base (Hangzhou), and the International Standardization Talent Training Base, and has carried out metrology, standards, and quality professional talent training for industry institutions, with a total of 27,000 trainees.

The school has deeply connected with the State Administration for Market Regulation and its directly affiliated units, and local market supervision and management departments, actively undertakes the secretariat work of the National Metrology Strategic Advisory Committee, and carries out strategic cooperation with the China Institute of Metrology, Zhejiang Provincial Market Supervision Administration, Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce, Zhejiang Provincial Emergency Management Department, Ningxia Market Supervision and Management Department, etc. There are 10 local research institutes, 17 local technology transfer institutions, and 30 industrial technology alliances. As the leading unit, it jointly initiated the establishment of the "Yangtze River Delta High-level Industry Characteristic University Alliance" with 13 universities.

The school has established cooperation with more than 50 foreign universities and research institutions, and held 2 undergraduate education projects in Sino-foreign cooperative education. There are Confucius Institutes at the University of Finance and Management in Prague, Zhejiang-Czech Prague Silk Road Institute, and Zhejiang-Czech Cultural Exchange Center. It took the lead in establishing the world's first "Belt and Road" standardization education and research university alliance, with 117 universities from 36 countries and regions joining, and established the "Belt and Road" Academy. There is a Hangzhou-Dresden Liaison Office jointly established with the Dresden Municipal Government of Germany.
