Fujian Normal University is located in Fuzhou, a historical and cultural city known as the "Zou Lu of the Seaside". It is a century-old provincial higher education institution with a long history and a great reputation. The school originated from the "Fujian Superior Normal School" founded by Mr. Chen Baochen, the imperial teacher of the Qing Dynasty in 1907. Later, it was adjusted and merged by South China Women's College of Arts and Sciences, Fujian Union University, Fujian Provincial Normal College and other units. Fujian Normal College was established in 1953. In 1972, it was renamed Fujian Normal University and has been used ever since. In 2012, the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Fujian Province jointly established Fujian Normal University. In 2014, it was identified as a high-level university that Fujian Province focused on building. In 2018, it was identified as a national first-class university construction university in Fujian Province.

Over the past 100 years, the torch has been passed down. The school hosts a variety of academic journals. The Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition and the Natural Science Edition of the Journal of Fujian Normal University are both national core Chinese journals. The Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition has been rated as a famous column construction journal of the Ministry of Education and a source journal of the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI). The Natural Science Edition has been listed as a core journal of Chinese science and technology and a source journal of the Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD). The library is a key national ancient book protection unit. It currently has nearly 4 million paper books and nearly 3 million electronic books, ranking among the top in the national normal colleges. It is especially famous for its rich collection of ancient books, rare books, inscriptions, calligraphy and paintings, local documents, early foreign language original books and representative newspapers and periodicals before and after the May Fourth Movement. The campus network equipment is complete and widely used, achieving full coverage of wireless network campus.
